Oliver believed that with a million pound bank note a man could
survive a month in London, but Roderick didn't believe it.
Henry Adams, an American businessman, was carried out to
sea by a strong wind when sailing home. He was spotted by a ship
where he earned his passage by working as an unpaid hand. Then
the boat brought him to London quite by accident. As Henry was
penniless, the brothers thought him the right person to test who
would win the bet. So they asked Henry to come into a mansion
and gave Henry a letter, telling him not to open it until 2
