Representation:

Preference for a committee structure

= Open public forum supported by a Representative Group

Frequency: Five meetings per year = Meeting every second month for the first year

Access: Desire to access the Docklands Steering Group (DSG)

= Representatives from Representative Group attend and present to first 15 minutes of DSG meeting

Scope: Input into all levels of decision making is sought

= Representative Group determine scope of DCF with City of Melbourne and Places Victoria

Process: Should be transparent, inclusive and provide ample and timely information

= Built into Terms of Reference eg: capacity building with groups previously not represented at other Docklands engagement activities

Communication:

More communication on projects and developments, and DCF is communicated through a variety of channels

= Built into determination of scope and DCF communication programeg: agenda to include development update from Places Victoria

Purpose of the Plan:

DOCKLANDS PUBLIC REALM PLAN

• Provide a strategic companion document to the Docklands Design and Construction Standards for Public Infrastructure Works (City of Melbourne 2012).

• Outline the value of the public realm.

• Provide an overview of challenges and opportunities in the Docklands context.

• Provide clarity to developers, designers and government regarding long-term strategies, principles and guidelines for the design and programming of public streets and spaces.

• Demonstrate how design principles may be applied to streets and spaces.

• Provide briefing notes for the design of key public spaces.

• Provide a checklist of design principles.

• Identify future projects for public spaces and streets.

Part of an $8M City of Melbourne budget commitment for 2012/13:

• Docklands Wayfinding Signage• Parks Renewal Program – Docklands and new assets• Docklands – Infrastructure renewal• Pedestrian/bicycle link from West Melbourne to Docklands• Northbank Promenade link (associated with Jim Stynes

Bridge)

• Plus a range of smaller scale projects including completion of the Docklands Community Garden Shelter and the Multipurpose Court as well as supporting initiatives such as Alma Doepel restoration
