1972 under the provisions of the Statistics -

Central Statistic Office.

• In 1978, under the provisions of Ministry of

planning.

• In 1990 , name is change to ministry of statistics

• In 1994 , independent organization Central

Statistics Organization.

BACKGROUND

• Department of Statistics, Afghanistan (DOSA), the main government agency entrusted with the responsibility to collect, interpret and disseminate statistics.

• A centralised system, with DOSA as central agency, while other agencies provide statistics specific to their needs.

• Special and heavy demand placed on the system to provide timely and current information to monitor economic performance as well as social development of the country.
