PPRESIDENTRESIDENTSS MMESSAGEESSAGEI'd love to be able to dispel all rumors aboutthe future of Second Creek and be able togive you the most complete and accurateinformation on the potential new track.Unfortunately at the date of this writing noone knows if we will have the use ofSecond Creek after this year and any predic-tions are just opinions. We remain hopefuland efforts continue to get a renewal of theuse permit from Adams County but no oneknows if these efforts will be successful.

The status of the proposed new track isequally fluid. What I write here will behopelessly dated and maybe even inaccurateby the time you read this. Still, everyonewants to know, so I'll tell you what I think Iknow today. Numerous volunteers from themotorsports community have devotedcountless hours working on the possibilityof developing a new track to replace SecondCreek. A possible site has been selected anda contract to purchase land is in place sub-ject to several contingencies, one of whichis receiving zoning approval for use of theland as a track. Citizen opposition maydoom this initial site in which case CAMA,LLC (Colorado Amateur MotorsportsAssociation) will continue to look for a sitewhere a track may be a permitted use.

CAMA LLC was formed by five of the larg-er car clubs, RMR, Rocky MountainVintage Racing, Colorado Region SCCA,

the Multi-Car Club Alliance and theMotorcycle Racing Association with theassistance of the Colorado MotorsportsCouncil. Initial capital for CAMA camefrom distributions to the five Clubs in theamounts they initially contributed to acquirethe lease to Second Creek and to repave it.This initial funding is available for the pur-

chase of the land for the new track and thereis the potential for further funding from theearnings of Second Creek. The initial capi-tal will not be sufficient to purchase the firstsite selected for consideration and will notbe enough to purchase any alternative site.Certain of the Clubs including RMR haveindicated a willingness to contribute addi-tional funds subject to contingencies onreturn of the funds in proportion to their

contribution, if a track is not built. Still, it isclear that more funds will be necessary ifCAMA is to build and operate a track.Contributions from members will be neces-sary as well as fund raising activities fromall the Clubs with the specific purpose ofcontributing to the purchase of land anddevelopment of a new track. Toward thatend, RMR has set up an account to hold anycontributions and any donated funds will becontributed to the new track venture orreturned to the donor. Rick Goncalves hasrecently accepted the role as RMR's repre-sentative to the fund raising committee ofCAMA and we will get more organized inthe future and have more information anddirection with respect to the fund raisingefforts.

RMR is in complete support of the efforts todevelop a new track and many RMR mem-bers have devoted countless hours to thisproject. Development of real estate is a dif-ficult task and our volunteers have done ter-rific jobs working toward this goal. Still, this will not be easy and will not produce animmediate substitute for Second Creek.Rest assured that your Board is workingdiligently to have places to enjoy the carswe all love so much. Hope to see you soon.

By Sharon Maybee

Arriving around 7 AM while it was quiet andcool, the sweet sound of over 180 air-cooled(almost all) flat sixes' and fours' slowly movingup the street was beautiful. This was the open-ing of the 4th annual Gmund West event held atGeorge and Sharon Maybees' in HendersonColorado.

Over 550 North American and European Porscheaficionados, including Ingrid and VolkerSpannagel of Porsche Clubs Worldwide inStuttgart, Jack Bair of PCNA and the 356 Boardof Trustees were on hand to celebrate the contin-uing work on the replica of the Gmund designfacility and the many wondrous vehicles thatcame out of that beginning. This year, Porscheenthusiasts had the opportunity to ooh and aahand vote Terry Hefty's 906 Porsche as the"People's Choice" out of over 90 concour carsand tractors. Lynn Bensons Porsche-Diesel trac-tor received "Best of Show" with the top concour

score of 100. Mel Shapiro's 1956 beautiful blackspeedster, Norm Pettit's vintage racecar and theMaybee's 1957 1-cylinder Porsche-Diesel werefeatured on the lawn of the Gmund building. Inaddition, Robert Prilika, professional racecardriver, brought 2 cars that he raced nationally.

To complete the day, attendees raced to the finishon Porsche tractors at the fourth annual, first-ever, anywhere Schlepper-cross, received schlep-per-cross fastest time awards and concoursjudged awards and along with consuming plentyof German food, drink and good times.

Thanks to the sponsors, Prestige Imports,Porsche Cars North America , Porsche AG-ClubsWorldwide, RMRPCA, RM356PC, Carquip, and356Restore. A special thank you to the manyvolunteers who made this event successful.

Next years Gmund West event is already in theplanning stage and will be held in mid July2005.
