Taipei – Singapore

Depart for Singapore, the world’s only sovereign city-state in Southeast Asia. This Garden City is a great stopover with skyscrapers and subways of a modern, affluent city, a medley of Chinese, Malay, and Indian influences, a tropical climate, tasty food, good shopping and a vibrant night-life scene. Upon arrival, we will have a city tour to explore the history, culture and life style of multi-racial Singapore. Drive past the 'Colonial Heart' before proceeding to Merlion Park and Old Parliament House. Statues of Sir Stamford Raffles, sculpted by Thomas Woolner, is a popular icon of Singapore. The statue depicts Raffles, standing tall, arms folded, with an aura of quiet assurance. It was installed on Jubilee Day on 27 June 1887 at the Padang and relocated to the Empress Place during the Centenary Celebrations on February 6, 1919. We will have a photo stop at Esplanade, one of the busiest art centers in the world. In Singapore's Chinatown we will get to spend some time exploring the maze of awning-draped shops and market stalls. Thian Hock Keng is one of the oldest and most important Hokkien temples in Singapore. It was visited by Chinese immigrants giving thanks to Ma Zu (Goddess of the Sea) for their safe voyage. Over the years, Thian Hock Keng has been restored several times. The latest restoration project won 4 architectural awards, including the most prestigious award from UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage 2001 Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation Building. Tonight, a Welcome Dinner featuring a seafood buffet is arranged.

Day 3**Jan 8 (D)

Today, we will transfer to embark on the Sapphire Princess at Port Singapore. Over 700 balconies, world-class gourmet dining and dazzling entertainment options are just the beginning of our sea-going adventure. Dance the night away, enjoy casino gaming or relax and rejuvenate body and mind at the Lotus Spa. There’s always something happening on board — from heading to the Princess Theater for a lavish original musical production to enjoying a blockbuster movie poolside under the stars or simply relaxing in a lounge sipping a cocktail where a live band is playing your song.

Today, we will arrive at Singapore. After our disembarkation, we will meet an Air & Sea representative and start our tour at the Botanical Gardens, one of the tropical island's luxuriant parks. Spread over 30 acres, it offers a combination of untouched forest and specialty gardens, including the National Orchid Garden, the world's largest collection of orchids displayed in their full splendor. It houses over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchids. See the "dignitaries" such as Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela, Laura Bush and Princess Diana in the VIP (Very Important Plants) Garden. Next, visit exotic Little India, to be charmed by the many shops selling spices, snacks, colorful saris, glittering jewelry, accessories, brassware and other exotica. Taste some spices, then continue past Arab Street and the beautiful gold-domed Sultan Mosque. Today’s lunch is the famous Hainan Chicken Rice, one of

Kota Kinabalu is located between the South China Sea and the towering ramparts of the Crocker Range. It has been the capital of Malaysia's Sabah State in Northern Borneo since 1963 and occupies the site of Jesselton, the old British colonial capital. (Jesselton was razed during World War II.). The city tour will introduce us to this modern Malaysian city. We will pass by the Atkinson Clock Tower, an enduring landmark built in 1902 and the oldest standing structure in the whole of Sabah that survived the air raids and blitz of World War II. We will have photo stops at the Tun Mustapha Tower and the City Mosque, both memorable structures. The 30-story circular glass and steel Tower is one of only three buildings in the world constructed in this "suspended" manner and is the second tallest building on the island. We will visit the magnificent Sabah Museum, a showcase of Sabah's rich cultural heritage. It's one of the best places to learn about the indigenous culture as well as view weapons and artifacts. The flagship Sabah Museum Complex sits on over 40 acres and is surrounded by lush gardens. It is located at Old Palace Hill (Bukit Istana Lama) and consists of the Main Building, the Science and Technology Center, the Heritage Village, Ethno-Botanical Garden, and the Sabah Islamic Civilization Museum. Its architecture was inspired by traditional island structures. We will also find a number of traditional buildings including the Skull Hut and native houses of varied architectural designs in the Heritage Village. We will complete our Kota Kinabalu experience with a short stop at the Handicraft Market to buy some local souvenirs before returning to the ship.

Today, we will arrive at the port of Phu My (pronounced "Foo Me"), the gateway to Ho Chi Minh City and the seaside resort of Vung Tau. Over three decades have passed since the Vietnam War ended with the fall of Saigon. Today, the name of this bustling metropolis on the Mekong River is Ho Chi Minh City. Yet, the essence of the city, a major trading center since the 18th century, remains unchanged. The air is filled with the cries of street hawkers and honking horns. Bicycles, motorbikes and automobiles fly down the boulevards at dizzying speeds. And everywhere, we encounter friendly faces and warm greetings. As we follow the Saigon River and pass through a landscape of small villages, rice

Sihanoukville is located on a peninsula some 155 miles southwest of Phnom Penh. Developed as Cambodia's sole deepwater port in 1964, Sihanoukville is the former Kampong Som and has become a jealously guarded secret of savvy travelers. This still pristine resort on the Gulf of Thailand boasts beautiful beaches and crystalline waters. Today’s tour begins from Wat Krom and Intra Nhean Pagoda, the Buddhist temple at the base of Sihanouk Mountain. Its name is a literal description of its location as "Wat" means temple and "Krom" means "lower." Explore the temple, which features excellent views of the sea and a small chapel dedicated to Ya-Mao, a local deity. Continue past Victory Hill and Independence Square where we will have a photo stop at the War Memorial, commemorating Cambodia's war dead. Next, stop at Sihanoukville's bustling marketplace, Psar Lu Market. Browse the many stalls with their colorful displays of fish, shellfish, poultry, palm sugar, tropical fruits, flowers, and crafts. Drive to a typical Khmer village to see a typical house and meet a Khmer family.

Jan 16 (Tue) Cambodia - Sihanoukville Wat Krom, Village & Market (4 Hours)

Laem Chabang is our gateway to Bangkok. This enchanting city on the Chao Phraya River is a magical place where graceful dancers perform in shimmering silk gowns, temples with gold-leaf spires harbor priceless Buddhas and riverboats cruise a maze of canals. The only nation in Southeast Asia to escape colonial rule, Thailand offers a rich and ancient culture that flowered unhindered by Western influence. Proud and strongly nationalistic, the Thai people call their nation Muang Thai - "Land of the Free." Founded in 1782 by King Rama I, Bangkok is home to more than eight million people. The capital's proper name is Krung Thep - the "City of Angels." Founded in 1782, The Grand Palace is the Royal palace of the Kings of the Chakri dynasty and is the current ruling house. Although the present Royal family no longer resides in the Grand Palace, the structure is still the official seat of the King's power and ceremonial occasions are celebrated here. The tour of the palace will include an introduction to the distinctive styles of the different halls and pavilions, which reflect the disparate influences which the Thais have come into contact with. We will also have the chance to visit the Emerald Buddha - the symbol of the regency of the House of Chakri. Experience riding a Tuk Tuk, a motorized rickshaw from The Grand Palace to Wat Pho, passing by Giant Swing, Democracy monument, and Rajadamnern Avenue. The Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) in Thailand is one of the oldest, largest and most famous temples in Bangkok and the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. It was also an educational center for traditional Thai medicine. After lunch, enjoy some free shopping time before transfer back to the pier.

paddy fields, and rubber trees, we will arrive at Ho Chi Minh City. First stop is the National History Museum of Vietnam whose collection traces the cultural history of Vietnam with exhibits that feature stone and bronze artifacts, Champa art, ceramics and traditional costumes. At the National Museum Theater, we can enjoy a traditional Vietnamese water puppet performance. We will drive past the Botanical and Zoological Gardens, City Hall, Ho Chi Minh Park and the site of the U.S. military’s weekly updates at the Rex Hotel, home of the infamous "Friday Night Follies." We will have an orientation tour of the Opera House, Notre Dame Cathedral, the French Colonial Post Office and a photo stop at Independence Palace or the Former Presidential Palace of South Vietnamese government before 1975. After enjoying the famous traditional Vietnamese Noodles Lunch, we will have a brief visit at Binh Tay Market to shop before heading back to the pier.
