“With the sector’s help we will be putting on a workshop where we can explain and get your views on how HMEP is in transition from a DfT funded position to one that is self-sustaining.”
Haydn Davies Programme manager, HMEP
“The aim of IHE’s new National Highway Engineering Academy is to train a dedicated workforce with the specialist skills and expertise the industry needs to build the UK’s road network. That’s why we’re happy to support Highways SIB and discuss the opportunities that are available in the sector.”
Richard Hayes Chief executive, IHE
Highways SIB (Seeing is Believing) brings you the ‘inside-out’ of the highways maintenance and traffic management world with both an indoor exhibition and outside demonstration zones.
It is the only event brought to you by a trusted and valued source of industry information – Highways Magazine. Through our websites at sib.uk.net and highwaysmagazine.co.uk and our social media channels (@highwaysmag and @SIBEvent), we are able to bring you the very latest developments throughout the year. Highways Magazine aims to support the industry by sharing best practice, offering an unbiased account of the news (via Highways on Fridays), showcasing the best it has to offer with the Highways Magazine Excellence Awards and, then, literally bringing everything to life at the biennial Highways SIB event where ‘Seeing is Believing’.
Highways SIB provides the perfect showcase with its real road environments outside in all weather and lighting conditions. And this year we’ve taken our ‘Inside-out’ philosophy even further with the creation of an ‘integrated’ conference, workshops and roundtable discussions (offering 2 days Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accredited by the IHE). In this way, many of the techniques and skills that you learn about and discuss inside will then later be put into practice outside along the new two-way street.
Key highlights for our 2016 event include:
A large indoor exhibition hall featuring over 80 leading companies and organisations. Six specialised outdoor ‘zones’ covering maintenance, markings, traffic calming, signage, technology and lighting. A two-way street operating alongside the outside demonstration areas. Designated drop-off and collection points. A full timetable of outdoor demonstrations. A fully marked motorway for showcase displays. An apprenticeship/skills zone within the hall.

“Highways SIB is a great opportunity for Intelligent Transport Systems manufacturers and service providers to demonstrate their products in realistic conditions and highlights the excellent capabilities of the UK ITS industry.”
Jennie Martin Secretary general, ITS (UK)

“RSMA is once again pleased to be displaying at SIB and supporting what is an important event. By providing a virtually unique opportunity to display, compare and contrast different infrastructure and safety solutions SIB is crucial to the industry and clients alike”
George Lee Chief executive, Road Safety Markings Association
“The Association of Directors of Environment, Economy, Planning & Transport (ADEPT) is delighted to support Highways SIB (Seeing is Believing). This is one of the keynote events of the year, always leading edge and thought provoking and attracting a wide range of exhibitors and speakers.”
Parvis Khansari, chair of the engineering board, ADEPT
“The RSTA is delighted to be supporting Highways SIB in 2016 and will be taking centre stage on day one by running a road maintenance workshop where the audience can interact with the RSTA team and gain valuable insights into how road surface treatments contribute towards highway authorities asset management plans.”
Howard Robinson Chief executive, RSTA

“The Institution of Lighting Professionals is looking forward to participating and highlighting prevalent topics in the sector such as part-night lighting and the rise of LED technology. The event offers an opportunity to see lighting products showcased in the environment that they’re designed for and we’ll be encouraging our members, many of whom work in the highways industry, to attend the event.”
Scott Pengelly Vice president of events, ILP
“This event will be an excellent opportunity for HTMA to communicate our key messages about the importance of road worker safety to a wide audience of decision makers and practitioners. We intend to use SIB to build on the legacy from our successful Roadworkers 2015 Safety Summit to help drive further safety improvements throughout the highways industry.”
Geoff Allister OBE Executive director, Highways Term Maintenance Association
“As part of our presentation, FTA will ensure that delegates attending Highways SIB will understand our members concerns on the efficient use of the road network, and the type of information that is required to keep freight operators informed so that they can make sensible decisions on how they operate their fleets when roadworks are in place.”
Malcolm Bingham Head of road network management policy, FTA
“It’s essential for current and aspiring highways and transportation practitioners to keep up to speed with the new products and services that are constantly coming on to the market. Highways SIB offers the opportunity to view these products at close quarters and ask detailed questions about their specifications and capability. It also enables budget holders to make informed operational decisions on future spend. It’s a great CPD event for CIHT members.”
Sue Stevens Director of education & membership, Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation
“Transport Focus looks forward to attending the Highways SIB (Seeing is Believing) conference and explaining about our work representing the interests of road users on England’s motorways and major ‘A’ roads. ‘Quality of road surfaces’ is the aspect that users’ want to see improved most, so it’s a great opportunity to see and hear about the wider industry innovations that will improve highway maintenance and reduce disruption to users.”
Guy Dangerfield, road user director, Transport Focus
