In a unique amalgamationof different art forms,Norwegian black metalmusic will fuse with

classical Indian dances likeBharatnatyam and Kathaklive on stage for the firsttime.

The performance, titled,Questionings, is being pre-sented by the Norwegianband Vreid and Delhi bornFrance-based dancer

Rukmini Chatterjee, alongwith Kathak dancers AnujMishra and Smriti Mishra.

“The lyrics and intensityof Norwegian metal music,along with the symbols andrhythms of Indian classicaldance and the techniques ofnew technology, bring forththe universal dimension ofman in modern times,” saysChatterjee, who has trainedunder Indian classicaldancer Mrinalini Sarabhai.

As to the reason behindworking with Vreid,

Chatterjee says, “Blackmetal music brings forth theenergies of our times in apowerful way. Since this actinvokes the Kaliyug, for me,there was no better art formto work with.”

Vreid, comprising of Hvall(Jarle Kvale), Steingrim(Jorn Holen), Sture (StureDingsoyr) and Strom (StianBakketeig), kick off theirworld tour with theperformance in India. “It’s avery unique project, and wefeel honoured to be a part of

Rukmini’sgreat vision,” says Kvale.

Classical Indian music hasimpressed the band so much

so that Kvale says, “Thequalities of this form ofmusic is very inspiring. Ihave been in touch withseveral Indian metal bands.It’s heartening to see thatmetal has a strong presencein the Indian subculture.”

After the Indian tour,Questionings would travel totheatres and festivals inEurope such as The Opera ofOslo in Norway, the festivalTemps d’aimer la Danse inFrance and The Théâtre dela Ville, Paris.
