WHAT THEY SAY…
"NEVER BEFORE HAVE I WITNESSED AN ENSEMBLE PRODUCE SUCH A REMARKABLE AND UNIFIED SOUND, SUCH IMPECCABLE PHRASING, SUCH
UNPARALLELED EXPRESSION OF STUNNING SONORITY, PHRASING AND BRILLIANT BEAT PUNCTUATIONS AS I DID IN BOURGIE HALL DURING ARION'S
KICK-OFF 2014/15 CONCERT TITLED "COUCOU!" Nancy Snipper, Arts & Opinion
‹∞›
"ONE COULD RELISH THE IMPECCABLE INTONATION OF THE STRINGS AND THEIR COLLECTIVE INSTINCT FOR APPROPRIATE TEXTURE. JUDGING BY THIS
CONCERT, ARION IS IN GREAT SHAPE."Arthur Kaptainis, The Gazette
‹∞›
"THE [C.P.E. BACH] FLUTE CONCERTO ISN’T JUST WELL-WRITTEN AND EXPERTLY PERFORMED – IT IS REALLY EXCITING AND LEAVES YOU DELIGHTING IN THE EXPRESSIVE TECHNIQUE AND TRULY SPECTACULAR ENSEMBLE WORK."
David Vernier, Listen
‹∞›
"ARION BAROQUE ORCHESTRA DELIVER OUTSTANDING VIVALDI PROGRAMME." Richard Todd, Ottawa Citizen
SINCE ITS CREATION IN 1981 IN MONTREAL, ARION HAS REMAINED CONNECTED TO THE CREATIVE ENERGY OF BAROQUE COMPOSERS, LIKE BACH AND VIVALDI,
PLAYING THEIR WORKS ON PERIOD INSTRUMENTS AND REDISCOVERING THE SHINE OF THE ORIGINAL COLOURS OF THOSE MASTERPIECES.
THANKS TO THE ARTISTIC VISION OF CLAIRE GUIMOND, IT IS NOW THE FIGUREHEAD OF THE WORLD OF ANCIENT MUSIC ON PERIOD INSTRUMENTS
IN QUEBEC AND CANADA.

BEYOND THE FOUR SEASONS!
Guest conductor and soloist: Enrico Onofri, violin (Italy)Soloists: Mireille Lebel, mezzo-soprano (Canada) and Claire Guimond, flute (Canada)
‹ WORKS OF VIVALDI ›‹∞›
Nature in its various manifestations and through its impact on human activity fascinated and inspired that great Venetian conjurer, Vivaldi. Apart from the famous Seasons, storms,
birds, frost, the hunt, and rustic revelry can be found in a good number of his concertos and vocal music. Experience the exhilaration of the tempest as well as the joys nature also
bestows in this opening concert of Arion’s 35th Season, expressed by the moving voice of Mireille Lebel, the eloquent violin of Enrico Onofri, and the sensitive flute
of Claire Guimond.

Soloists: Hannah Morrisson, soprano (Germany), Johannette Zomer, soprano (Netherlands), James Laing, alto (United Kingdom), Zachary Wilder,
tenor (United States) and Matthew Brook, bass (United Kingdom) ‹ WORKS OF BACH, KUHNAU AND TELEMANN ›
‹∞›It seems fitting that two of the sacred masterworks dedicated to the Virgin Mary
by Bach and Kuhnau should be performed for the first time by Arion Baroque Orchestra in such a grand setting as Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica, in joyful
preparation of Christmastide. Auguring also well are the glad tidings brought by a pair of oboes in a cheery orchestral suite by Telemann. Singers and orchestra promise
to resound jubilantly under the basilica’s starry canopy, directed by the ever fervent Alexander Weimann.

BACH AND THE BERNARDINIS
Guest conductors and soloists: Alfredo Bernardini, oboe (Italy) and Cecilia Bernardini, violin (Holland)
Soloists: Claire Guimond, flute (Canada) and Hank Knox, harpsichord (Canada) ‹ WORKS OF BACH ›
‹∞›Witness an exuberant and convivial gathering of family and friends around Bach’s
instrumental music, quite like he was himself in the habit of doing. The Bernardinis father and daughter, on oboe and violin respectively, join with the Arion family and two
of its founding members—Hank Knox on harpsichord and Claire Guimond on flute— to share some of the finest Baroque concertos and orchestral works.

MONTANARIGuest conductor and soloist: Stefano Montanari, violin (Italy)
Soloist: Kate Bennett Wadsworth, cello (United Kingdom) ‹ WORKS OF BOCCHERINI, CAMBINI AND SAMMARTINI ›
‹∞›Marking the awaited return of inquisitive violinist Stefano Montanari, this concert
is sure to spark the interest of music lovers curious to discover repertoire that is out of the ordinary. Arion and its guest conductor have tapped into the remarkable genre of the sinfonia concertante from the nascent classical era in order to propose works that boast the rich colors of the orchestra while displaying the vibrant expression of
the solo concerto.

Guest conductor: Steven Devine, harpsichord (United Kingdom) ‹ WORKS OF HANDEL, TELEMANN AND ARNE ›
‹∞›Arion Baroque Orchestra welcomes British harpsichordist and conductor
Steven Devine with a definite bang, for his first visit with us to Montreal, namely with the performance of Handel’s celebrated Music for the Royal Fireworks.
Handel’s pyrotechnics and pomp will be balanced, and courteously quenched, by the enchanting grace of Telemann’s own “Water Music.”
