Specifically deisgned for medical diagnostic and life science applications, we have developed a series of XYZ compact actuator systems. The belt driven X and Y axis allows for fast move-ment to position while the lead screw driven Z axis allows for careful placement of a payload.
These very compact sub assemblies allow customers to keep their point of care diagnostic systems small which is very important since a doctor’s office lab space is limited. U.S. physicians see 2.5 mil-lion patients per day. In 60 to 70 percent of those visits, the physician needs to order diagnostics test to guide treatment or to monitor their patient. New point of care diagnostic systems eliminate the typical outsourcing and long wait (e.g., three to five days) for the results.
Introduction
XYZCombinationBeltandLead Screw Drive Actuator
Our actuators are built from high quality components to provide high reliability and long life. To help maintain low cost structures, these component selections take advantage of the The Precision AlliAnce members. To right is an example of a miniature linear guide rail with blocks provided by our partner, Chieftek Precision Company, that we use to form each axis of the actuator. In additon our in house machining provides us with a method to develop sam-ples and prototypes quickly.
High Quality Components
FlexibilityThe belt driven X and Y axis are easily adjusted for different travel requirements. High performance zero backlash synchro-belt “New Arched Tooth Profile” technology allows for high positioning accuracy, quiet running, and low particle generation.
These are optimal for small precision instruments and lab automation systems.

High resolution leadscrew or ballscrew drive provides excellent me-chanical advantage to allow for higher forces where increased accelle-ration and lifting capability are important. Some important features are noted below.
• Integrated screw with motor minimizes overall height• Up to 10 kg payload lifting capacities• Up to 30mm travel
Z-Axis (Up & Down Movement)
SensorsElectronic optical sensors are secured to the structure for end of travel feedback.
• Optical Slot Type• Adjustable Flags• Transistor outputs• Two sensors on each axis
GuidewaysPrecision miniature linear recirculating guides with blocks provide the basis for the structure.• Excellentstraightnessandflatnessoftravel• High stiffness with low frictional resistance
High performance 2mm pitch synchro-belt with specialtoothprofilequietlymovesthepayloadalong the X & Y Axis.
• Utilize2GTBeltProfileTechnology• Zerobacklashtoothprofiledesign• Ultra clean and long life• Up to 750 x 200mm travel
Step MotorsInexpensive standard frame size step-per motors provide excellent low speed torque.• 2 Phase, bipolar type• Various winding options availble• Optional rotary encoders
