In the mid 1990s the Hawaii Department of Education (HIDOE) attempted to address the equity and access issues that became even more pronounced with teachers failing to transfer into remote school districts and schools' not providing higher level courses that would guarantee smooth student transitions into colleges. HIDOE Vice Superintendent drafted three white papers in which one was selected and submitted as a competitive grant proposal and was awarded a USDOE Technology Innovation Grant of $4.7 M to create a virtual school in 1994. This was the birth of the Hawaii DOE E-School.
The HIDOE E-School became a supplementary program designed to provide online distance education credit classes to public school students who need credit recovery or credit acceleration, and it utilizes many digital technologies. In 2001, a charter school was reestablished to continue the mission of the original USDOE Technology Grant and became the premier new century public charter school.
Invitations were received by educational organizations from Asia seeking alternative educational opportunities for students, and to go further than was allowed by Hawaii State public regulations, WORL-ED was established. WORL-ED was driven to assist in-country educators, K-12 schools and organizations, and institutes of higher education with the creation of hybrid educational offerings that would lead to global citizenship for students and cultivate global economic growth through education.

We seek to produce learners who accept responsibility for their learning, work together, recognize and produce quality work, appropriately using current and emerging technology to solve complex problems.

WORL-ED
Quality educators are able to ignite passion and usher in the realization of a universe filled with opportunity. As individuals we find ourselves having unique tastes inspired by an experience; we see our teachers as this experience. We believe in multi-talented teachers whose classroom performance is synonymous to that of platinum recording artists, elite professional athletes, iron chefs, best seller authors, mainstream artists, and A-list actress/actor. They also possess strong content knowledge and wholeheartedly believe “Every student WILL learn.”

Nationally, both “academically-challenged” and gifted & talented kids are dropping/tuning out of classroom-based education environments not because they cannot learn, but because their 20th Century institutions have little or nothing to do with the 21st Century world in which they live and learn. Benchmarking against global standards creates students eager to experience an American education, or American students ambitious to acquire international skills. A global education proposes multiple ways for students in divided countries to benefit from our school systems worldwide. Most importantly, our students will become global citizens who: are empathetic; acts ethically; are outraged by social injustice; are willing to make some sacrifice for the common good; and are willing to ACT to improve the world.
There is no sign of technology replacing a quality educator in the forcasted future. Technology is a resource that makes our best teachers—even better. With continuous integration, we are able to segment our operations into several builds, or partial products, which can be integrated individually with students, families, schools, businesses and more. A sequence of incremental builds yields results successively closer to our added value of one:one education. The community gains an advantage in seeing a working product early in the development, and can verify performance or other quality factors in a current education environment. Continuous integration also decreases risks because our academic and technology developers can identify integration problems during early iterations of integration and accurately assist students in determining success.

WORL-ED has a comprehensive course offering in English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and many electives including other foreign languages.
The College Board verifies AP in online learning programs in the same fashion as they do for face-to-face courses in bricks & mortar schools. Contingent upon availability of class, WORL-ED offers AP courses approved by College Board.
WORL-ED upholds all standards for achieving of global citizenship and makes every attempt to communicate them throughout its entire program. The curriculum adopted includes Language Advantage Courses. These courses are characterized in the following manner:

Student's schedule's are highly customizeable, but on average homework is usually due by 24:00, virtual classes are usually 1-3 times a week, and test have specific deadlines. Teachers have individual syllabus that determine the mandatory requirements of each class. You can study at any day when you want
