Quality of the LED GeneralThe DURIS P 5 is a high quality LED component.
Note: The full reliability report is available on request.
The quality of DURIS P 5 is ensured by
a high-quality product design a high-quality production line concept
comprehensive inspections and quality testsduring production.
OSRAM OS is the only LED manufacturer whocan offer a mid-power LED which is resistantagainst corrosion.

Corrosion Resistance
In SSL applications LEDs can be exposed tocorrosive gases (indoor and outdoor luminaires).
Today's mid-power LEDs employ a silver reflector.LEDs which have silver reflectors may be
especially damaged by those corrosive gases.Luminous flux decreases strongly.
DURIS P 5 employs a corrosion resistantleadframe and is the mid-power with the best-in-class corrosion resistance.
In a lot of SSL applications LEDs may be exposed to corrosive gases.
DURIS P 5 is the mid-power with the best-in-class corrosion resistance.
Rubber gaskets or adhesivesmay outgas corrosive gases.

DURIS P 5
Quality of the LED Corrosion ResistanceDURIS P 5 is the only SSL mid-power LED worldwide which is resistant
against corrosion.
SSL mid-power LEDs from competitors have a silver reflector inside. Silver corrodes in a corrosive gas atmosphere. Then the reflectivity
decreases which causes a strong luminous flux decrease of the LED.
DURIS P 5 employs a corrosion resistant leadframe and is the mid-power with the best-in-class corrosion resistance.

Positioning against Other LEDs
Main Arguments against other mid-power LEDs
Best-in class corrosion resistance and long lifetimes
At the moment no other mid-power LED seems to be able to offer both the efficacy, the lifetimes and the corrosion resistance compared to DURIS P 5.
Corrosion resistance: Feedback from customers
First luminaire manufacturers already insist on LEDs which have no silverleadframe inside.
Example 1:One of the largest luminaire manufacturer in Asia only accepts corrosion stablemid-power LEDs without silver leadframe for his huge 2012 indoor lighting
programme. Example 2:
One lighting OEM used LEDs with silver-plated leadframes for his outdoorluminaires. After some time the return rate of the luminaires due to field failures was1 %. 90 % of the defects were caused by a corroded leadframe.

Stress is related to the elongation of parts (CTE) and
the stiffness of the materials (Youngs Modulus)
The mechanical stress is increased by:
bigger temperature difference (T).
higher maximum temperature (Tmax).
larger device dimensions.
larger stiffness of materials
Long longer cycle durations is accelerating the crackgrowth.
