Working with Movie Maker
LET’S MAKE A MOVIE!
Why Use Movies?
Video has a special power for kids Video is COOL! Another way to show learning Good for ELL, LD kids Impact (favorite thing I did) Audience (creates an atmosphere
of “what am I cable of” global audience)
Video Projects
Assign time limits ( A must!) 30 seconds – this makes them careful about
what is included No Violence and martial arts Start with podcasts and slideshows Encourage Quality Students may work alone in a group with
no more than 3. Provide alternatives ( poster, etc) not
everyone can produce video because of lack of equipment.
What is involved with a movie project?
Gathering research needed for the project Planning – creating a storyboard
Locate pictures, sound effects, music, and narrative (be careful to maintain of list of sources for the credits)
Producing Creation of video Editing of video Testing to make sure it work on another
computer Finishing
Saving the project as well as finished product and delivering product to recipient.
Storyboard
Contains a rough sketch or outline of the project.
Timeline of the project. Helps to keep the developer on track. Should be complete and approved begin
production begins. May look like this:
Space Requirement on Computer
For every hour of captured 12-13 Gigabytes of disk space is needed.
For every minute captured .2 gigabytes of disk space is needed. (12/60 minutes)
After project has been rendered into a Movie. It will be compressed. When downloading a compressed movie the rule of thumb is:1 Minute of Video = 2 MB (Another reason for keeping project to a minimal time constraint)
Audacity
Free, sound editing and recording program Multi-tracked and will allow music and
narration May be imported into Movie Maker, Photo
Story 3, and other video editing programs Very User friendly Versions for Windows, Mac, and Linux Download the program from

Your movie has now been segmented into different parts. Split the clip again at the desired location to give you multiple segments, then click on the segment you wish to take out and hit delete.
Muting Narration
If you are using a clip from Discovery Education and you want to have your own narration you need to mute the audio. To do this, highlight the clip. Click “Clip” “Audio” and then “Mute”. Repeat for each segment you want muted
The is also useful if there is sound on the recording produced using a video camera.
Adding Custom Narration
