trip.RENSSELAER COUNTY DAIRY PRINCESS ARTICLE- Ihave always had Jerseys, but my second choice in the breeds of dairy cattle is the Milking Shorthorn. They are not one of themost popular breeds, but I have enjoyed the breed through theyears. My one and only Shorthorn is a cow named Zoey, she isbig a deep red cow who loves to be the boss. They are known fortheir docile temperament with a long production life. They havegood quality milk, are resistance to many different diseases, andhave great ease in calving. The breed is known for their dualpurpose of use for a milk or meat animal. Which means the breedcan be raised to be beef cow for meat production or a dairy cowfor milk production. Shorthorns are an average size cow weighing1400 to 1600 pounds, they are all-red, red with white markings,all-white, or red roan, and come in a variety shades of red. Themilking shorthorn is one the oldest breeds of cattle, they originatedin Great Britain. They are one of my favorite breeds of cattle; Ihave enjoyed showing Zoey through the years. Zoey always didwell at shows, these days she spends in her days at local dairyfarm with many other cows. She i s one of the only Shorthorns onthe farm and enjoys being a little different from the other cows.
