NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAM

UPCOMING PROGRAM November 4—Center of the City Speaker: Heather Seyfarth. November 11—Michigan Medicine's Outreach to Active-Duty Service Members, Veterans, and Military Families Speaker: Bill Bryan Introduction By Dennis Powers
Volume 11, Issue 3
TODAY’S PROGRAM…The Finish Line Scholarship Program Dan Burroughs and Peter Schork led our annual Kiwa-nis Scholarship award day. The scholarship program has been completely revamped to give one year, full ride scholar-ships to Washtenaw Commu-nity College students. The club awarded a $72,000 check to the WCC Foundation, which will distribute the scholarship funds to their students. The photos on pages 4 and 5 show the awardees who were pre-sent and the named scholar-ship presenters. At this point, fifteen WCC students have been matched with named scholarships with five addition-al recipients to be announced
at a later date. You’ll find the full list of awardees on page 3. Dr. Rose Bellanca, WCC President, noted that the average age of their students is 27 and that 50% of their students already have a bachelors degree. She asked the audience to fill in the answer to the question "What do you call a WCC student?" We answered "Employed." Phil Snyder from the WCC Foundation thanked our club's scholarship committee for their
diligent work. Dr. Jeanice Swift, AAPS Superinten-dent (and 2018-2019 Honorary Member of our club) congratulated the scholarship recipients, lauded WCC for their work, and thanked the Kiwanis Club of Ann Ar-bor. She noted that na-tionwide, about 1/2 of all college students are en-rolled in a community col-lege. Scholarship day is a proud moment for our club. A hearty thank you to all who donated funds and those who worked so hard on this project. Kiwanians change lives!

ANNOUNCEMENTS…
John Sampselle notes that the Public Relations & Marketing Committee has de-veloped a Customer Survey to obtain data about our clientele and ask about interest in volunteering and club membership. The survey will be distributed to customers by the cashiers and wrappers starting Friday, October 25 and then each Friday and Saturday for the following two weekends. The survey will be in a postcard format and can either be turned in at the sale or mailed to Kiwanis. To encourage survey returns, a drawing will be hold and a winner selected from completed survey cards. The winner will re-ceive a $100 gift certificate in Kiwanis merchandise. Employees, sale volunteers and club members are not eligible and you must be 18 or older to enter. Surveys must be turned in by 12/01/2019 to be eligible. The drawing will be on 12/14/2019. A Kiwanian will be stationed near the greeter desk to collect completed surveys and answer any questions.
All hands on deck. The Christmas set up will kick off Monday, 10/28 through Thursday 10/31 and continue into December. Contact Sonia Peterson with any ques-tions.
Kathy Wilder reminds us that the food repackaging project will be held at the KAC on 11/09/2019 from 2-4 pm. Flyer can be found in the 10/07 Newsletter.
Our Club's Super Interclub will be on 12/02/219. The speaker will be Michigan Su-preme Court Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack.
