What is Title I?
• Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nation’s schools.
• The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child.
• The program serves millions of children in elementary and secondary schools each year. Somerset Academy East Prep. is a Title I school.
How Title 1 Works
• The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I.
• The Florida Department of Education sends the money to the district.
• The school district identifies eligible schools and provides Title I funds.
• Somerset East Prep implements a schoolwide Title 1 program.
Title I Funds
• Somerset Academy East Prep is provided funds to pay for services and programs for our students.
• Title I funds pay for the following:• Tutoring before school• Para professionals for push in or pull out• Reading Coach that pulls groups for intensive reading• Teacher Professional Development• Student Agendas – ways to communicate with
parents• Yummy snacks for meetings• Parent Seminar
Who decides how funds are used?
• Every school has a School Advisory Council (SAC) composed of:• Parents, Teachers, Other staff that
works at the school, Principal and Students (at Middle and High School)
• The School Advisory Council determines how to use Title I funds.
Educational Standards
• Florida’s academic content standards establish high expectations for all students.
• Common Core State Standards/Florida Standards identify what your child needs to know and be able to do in all content areas.
• Information located at: http://www.floridastandards.org/Standards/FLStandardSearch.aspx
Parent’s Rights• Be involved and request regular meetings
to expression your opinions and concerns.• Be provided information on your child’s
level of achievement on assessments in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science.
• Request and receive information on the qualifications of your child’s teacher.
• Be informed if your child is taught by a non-highly qualified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks.
Meet Ms. Hernandez• This is my first year teaching at Somerset
Academy East Prep. • In addition to my students, I have a four
year old, and a fiancée.
Safety 1st Keeping your child safe is my #1 priority.● There are cameras installed all over the school so that the
principal can monitor hallways● If you drop off your child before 8:15am, they will NOT be
supervised. If you drop off your child after 8:31am, they will be considered late. Three tardies in a quarter will result in the loss of perfect attendance and 5 absences will result in a
meeting with the principal.● Uniforms are a requirement for all students. This includes the Somerset Logo Shirt, khaki or navy pants or skorts, black sneakers, black or white socks, black belts with shirts tucked in, and navy jackets with no hood. Write your child’s name in their jacket with permanent marker. Uniform Violations will be given starting Monday if out of uniform.
Safety 1st Continued ● Students should go to the bathroom before they come to school so that
bathroom breaks are limited during the school day.● If your child is sick with a communicable disease, do not send them to
school. We do not have a nurse on staff and your child will have to be picked up immediately. Upon return from an absence, send your child with a note explaining the reason for the absence or it will be marked unexcused and he/she will not be able to make up work from the day(s) missed.
● Medicine cannot be dispensed to your child unless there is a form filled out in the office. This includes over the counter medicine.● Fire/Tornado Drills: We practice fire and tornado drills regularly to ensure that students are able to go through these procedures if necessary. ● Cell phones will be confiscated if they are outside of a backpack during school hours. If you need to reach your child, contact the school office at 954-987-7890.
Safety 1st Continued ● If you need to pick up your child for a doctor’s appointment, you
cannot pick up your child between 2:00-2:30pm in the office. You must pick them up before 2pm or at regular dismissal.
● Your child is supervised at dismissal from 2:30-2:45pm. Don’t forget your car dashboard sign that needs to be displayed each day if you come through the car line. If you do not pick up your child by 2:45pm, he/she will be brought to the
office and there will be a late fee of $25 per child. People who are listed on the emergency form are the ONLY people who can pick up your child. ● Safekeeper Ritual and Safe Place: Two places in our classroom that show your children that I am here to keep them safe.
