How do we plow today?

• In many countries, particularly in Africa, Asia, and South America, people still have small fields and simple farming methods

• Small farms run by families to raise their own food are called “subsistence farms”

• In these types of places they often still plow their fields with animals

• They might even use wooden plows

How do we plow today?

• In countries with better farming technology farmers plow with machines

• Farms in these countries are often VERY large

• These farms are not owned by families, they are owned by companies

• The crops are not grown for eating, but for selling

• This is also called “agro-business”
