Healthy Families
We all desire for our families to be healthy - healthy physically,
mentally and spiritually. At Westwood, our shepherds have that
same desire for our church family. So, they provide opportunities
for our souls to be fed with the word of God. This morning we will
be fed by our worship together and our Bible class time. This after-
noon they have provided opportunities for us to grow closer as a
family and to God through our Life Groups.
Our shepherds also believe in healthy marriages – so we have been
having a Marriage Enrichment class during the month of February.
You can access those lessons via our church website
(www.westwoodchurchofchrist.com) and click on the “resource”
tab. We are also planning a “Couples Retreat” at HY Lake on
March 10-11. (More information below)
Coming up in March our Family Life Minister, Eben Gilbert, will be
teaching a “Parenting Class” on Monday night, March 13th. This
will be a great benefit for our families. Brother Eben is a tremen-
dous asset to our church and you will be blessed by this class.
I’m grateful to elders who care about the life of our families as
much as ours here at Westwood. So, avail yourself to these oppor-
tunities to be healthy!
God is Good All the Time!

Late Night Thoughts... It’s about 10:15 on Wednesday night as I write this. I’m
sitting at home thinking about how AWESOME God is. In
ministry, sometimes you go through different seasons.
Sometimes you go through seasons of indifference.
Sometimes you go through seasons of pain. Sometimes
you go through seasons of frustration. Then, sometimes
you go through seasons where God is alive and active
in a BIG BIG way. I believe we are in that season at
Westwood right now. Something awesome is happen-
ing with our youth group and our entire church family.
God’s spirit is showing up in incredible ways. A week
ago Karagen Hillis was baptized into Christ by one of
our senior leaders Sawyer Hall. Tonight, God placed it
on Wesley Pepper’s (a first time visitor) heart to be bap-
tized. This is an awesome season. Right now I’m trying
to figure out how to possibly fit a few more teenagers
who want to go last minute into rooms for Winterfest
when there really isn’t room, but God will provide. He
always does. I am so excited about Winterfest. We
have about 35 teenagers and 16 adults all making the
trip to Gatlinburg. It will be one of our biggest groups to
go on a trip since I’ve been at Westwood. God is at
work right now at Westwood and I’m blessed to be
able to get out of the way and let Him shape our lives.
God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

Reflections
Our beliefs are powerful motivators. What happens to us does not determine our emotional and behavioral re-
sponse as much as our mental evaluation of what has happened. Cognitive psychologists think that A (what hap-
pens to us) does not directly cause C (how we feel); rather B (what we believe and think about A) is responsible
for C (how we feel).
Irrational (i.e., self-defeating) beliefs cause maladaptive emotions and behaviors. They had best be disputed and
replaced with rational (i.e., self-fulfilling) beliefs for more adaptive emotions and behaviors. One powerful irrational belief is, “I must be
accepted and approved of by certain others in order to feel good about myself.” Change the “I must” to “I want” and leave off the ending
and you have a rational belief. The emotional and behavioral consequences of “I want”, are healthy, while the consequences of the de-
manding “I must” are unhealthy.
This is reminiscent of the inspired wisdom of Galatians 6:4 as translated by J.B. Phillips, “Let every man learn to assess properly the value
of his own work and he can then be rightly proud when he has done something worth doing without depending on the approval of oth-
ers.”

On the Lighter Side From Dust to Dust
After church, Johnny tells his parents he has to go and talk to the minister right away. They agree, and the preacher greets the family. “Preacher,” says Johnny, “I heard you say today that our bodies came from the dust.” “That’s right, Johnny, I did,” he says.
“And I heard you say that when we die, our bodies go back to dust.” “Yes, I’m glad you were listening,” the preacher replies. “Why do you ask?” “Well you better come over to our house right away and look under my bed, ‘cause there’s someone either a comin’ or a goin’!”
