EasterCamp 2012
WESTERNTalk & Ride
Day one! The teenagers arrived
at the farm Le-ckebusch in the „Bergische Land“ NRW, Germany.
Most of the teens brought
their own horses.
In the team the-re were 3 classic riders, and 11
western youths.
All teens loved the challenge
of speaking a fo-reign language and having as much riding experience as possible. In the afternoons they met for hall games and grooming sessions.
Day 1
Day two!
All teens received a plan with
their daily duties.
The groups were de-vided into
stable, farm and kitchen duties.
While the 1st team was
mucking out and feeding the horses, the 2nd swept the grounds and the 3rd prepared the breakfast and set the tables.
English was spoken most of the time. Day 2
All teens had their riding lessons in the
mornings. They were divided into 2 groups. Eva took the teens to the outdoor arena whi-le Rosita cared for the others in the indoor arena.
In the afternoon, after lunch, we started the work-
shop.
A picture dic-tionary was handed out.
We all went through the words and talked about horses and the problems at school.
A diary was made. The dirary
Teens of all levels of En-glish got to-
gether to help each other speak and create a wonderful week of excitement.
English is not one of their favourite lan-
guages but all teens joined in.
The daily diary was quite dif-ficult to write,
so Isabel explained the links between the German and English language and how to practise the tenses so that no grammar rules had to be learned. Camp
Lessons in the afternoon were quiet and
peaceful. The teens had to write about their day as best they could.
In the pony dictionary they found new words
and which they put into sentences.
Rosita and Eva supported the crew by
speaking English most of the day.
In the camp it became very obvious how
little the teens speak English at school.
But they ma-naged it!Study- Time
After their fantastic riding
lessons, where they were taught how to balance sand-filled balloons and play games, they had lunch. After the break they were ready to interview staff at the farm and create wonder-ful posters.
In the evening they designed t-shirts and
jewellery.
The day was very in-teresting.
Interviews
Leisure time was very important to us.
Riding without saddle in the afternoon or
meeting for a photo ses-sion in the round pen was great fun.
In the evening we sat around a fire and told spooky stories.
Maja‘s story was very black and she enjoyed telling it thoroughly.
Some could not sleep afterwards.
Great stuff!!
Fun time
There was a lot of laughter at the farm.
Rosita was very eager to talk English and
was very consequent talking English.
Eva‘s English is great and therefore she
was able to help the weaker ones. The trick is, not to take everything too seriously, don‘t you think?
In English please !!!
Friday after-noon we had to say „Good
Bye“.
Lots of tears were shed, lots of money
spent in the western shop. Many parents took the time to talk to Rosita, Eva and me.
We think the first ever
WesternCamp was a huge success and we do want to meet again.
