GETTING TO KNOW THE IRONMAN® 70.3® VILLAGE
• You would have received the following in
your Registration Pack:
– 1 x swim cap
– 1 x street wear bag | 1 x bike bag | 1 x run bag
– 1 x sheet numbers
• 1 x race number
• 1 x helmet number
• 1 x bike number
– 1 x bike check-out card (only to be used if you
can’t collect your bike yourself)
• You will receive and scan a timing chip on
site to check your race details.
REGISTRATION
• All participating athletes MUST check a bike
into Transition.
• Only athletes allowed into Transition.
• Bike- and helmet-check will be done at
entrance of Transition, if damaged, a new
one must be bought at Bike Maintenance
stand outside Transition.
• Your packed (and numbered) Bike- and Run
Bags only must be checked in now.
BIKE CHECK-IN
• No bike covers allowed overnight.
• No-one allowed into Transition after
17:00.
• Bike Maintenance available at the Bike
Entrance gate (i.e. bike check-in
entrance)
• Athletes can access their bike and bags
in Transition from 05:00 – 06:30 on
Race Morning
BIKE CHECK-IN
• Timing chip required for Saturday’s (only)
Official Swim Training (08:00 – 10:00).
• No chip – no time
• Ensure you fasten chip belt on left leg – use
safety pin to secure.
• Place chip under wetsuit – NOT over.
• New chips at: Swim start or Drop-out Clerk
gazebo on your exit from transition – your
responsibility to request new chip if you lose
yours.
CHIP RULES
• You need your official chip & chip belt to
collect your bike/transition bags at bike
check out.
• If you cannot collect your own bike, give
your “bike check-out card” and chip & chip
belt to a friend or family member.
• Lost/not handed in chips costs you R1000.00
• No substitution.

TRANSPORT
• Park and Ride along Esplanade from Garden Court – 04:45 – 06:15.
• Athletes will be DQed if caught driving on the course or parking in illegal areas on Race Day morning!
• Transition opens at 05:00 on Sunday 24 January, closes at 06:30 – for all athletes.
• Check your bike one last time before race.
• Ensure that you have your official swim cap and have your timing chip attached to your LEFT leg.
• Replacement swim caps will be at swim start on entry into the sea.
RACE DAY CHECK-IN
• Glasses, hearing aids, false teeth etc. can be left on the table as you exit Transition to the Swim Start.
• Hand in Street wear Bag at the Street wear Tent, down the Orient Path.

SWIM START
PROCEDURE
• Warm up before entering Swim Start area (land based warm up)
• Toilets for athletes on the way down towards Swim Start
• Enter Swim Start area down the slipway at the showers.
• Seed yourself correctly into anticipated swim time:
– Less than 30 minutes
– 30 minutes
– 40 minutes
– 50 minutes
– 60 minutes up
SWIM START
PROCEDURE
• Be realistic – self-seed in the right group
• Group of 10 athletes (fastest to slowest) will be
released initially every 10 seconds to cross timing
mat for swim start, thereafter 10 athletes every 5
seconds.
• Your race time starts when YOU cross the swim start
mat.
• Swim exit timing mat will be just before the ramp up
to the showers off the beach.
• If you miss the swim cut-off of 1 hour 10 minutes,
you will be a DNF after the event / in the final results.
SWIM START
PROCEDURE
• 1 lap of 1.9km.
• Keep buoys to left, except last one to right.
• If you need help, lift hand above head and
pump up and down.
• Remove wetsuit in change tent only – public
nudity is prohibited.
SWIM COURSE
• PRO wetsuit temperatures: under 16°C =
wetsuit compulsory; over 21.9°C wetsuit
banned.
• Age Group wetsuit temperatures: under
16°C = wetsuit compulsory; over 24.5°C
wetsuit banned.
• Water temperature 13 – 13.9°C swim halved
(950m) all athletes
• Water temperature below 13°C swim
cancelled for all
SWIM COURSE
• 4 Yellow buoys as guider buoys between red
buoys.
• No race number to be worn during swim.
• If you lose your chip, collect a new one at
Swim Start, or Drop-Out Clerk at Transition

• Swim course cut-off after 1h10min
• Cut-off time according to when YOU started
the race.
• If you miss the swim cut-off your name will
be on a board at entrance to transition and

into demarcated area outside tent.

TRANSITION: SWIM TO BIKE
• Athletes with cycling shoes in transition
bags MUST put their shoes on in the
Transition Tent during T1.
• Only handle your bike once you’ve clipped
your helmet on your head.
• Mount bike after mount/dismount line
outside Transition.
TRANSITION: SWIM TO BIKE
• 1 lap of 90.1km.
• Ride on left side of road – on Highway stay to the right of the yellow line.
• Motorbike “patrols” within yellow line.
• Aid Stations: 18km | 45km | 72km
• The total cut-off time for the bike is 5 hours
15 minutes from the Start of your race.
• If you miss the cut-off you will be listed DNF
in final results.
BIKE COURSE
• Draft rule – Pros – 12m; Age Group 10m.
Measured from the leading edge of the front
wheel and extending towards the back of the
bike
• Pros have 25 sec to overtake; Age Groupers have 20 sec to overtake.
• Blocking Rule - yellow card.
• Littering/outside (non-official) help – DSQ.
• NO Personal Seconding is allowed.

BIKE COURSE
• There will be 2 x SAG transport points on the bike
course – SAG & Bike Maint. – Berlin turnaround (45km)
– SAG – R72 NEX & Buffalo Park Drive intersection (2.8km / 88.7km)
• Athletes who wish to withdraw off the course for
whatever reason:– Can stop at one of the above locations.
– Will be collected, with their bicycles, off the course by race
support crew and transported to either of these SAG locations.
• All bikes will be returned to Transition until Bike
Check-out opens. You cannot reclaim or take your
bike before this.

• 2 x Penalty Tents – Turn-around and outside of
Transition
• If you receive a penalty, report to first penalty tent
you go past.
• Not showing at a penalty tent after receiving a
penalty will result in a DSQ.
• Penalty rules will remain as per WTC IRONMAN Race
Rules – EXCEPT Littering = DSQ.
• Litter zones are within 20m on either side of an Aid
Station.
PENALTIES
• Only drafting gives you a time penalty (5min). Report
to first tent after infringement. You must report Blue
card – number crossed and given stop watch.
• Yellow card, report to first penalty tent and report
yellow card. Number crossed, resume race.
• “3 strikes and you are out” rule – DSQ (Red card)
• If you report to the wrong penalty tent, don’t report
at all or report wrong card, then DSQ (Red card).
• If you miss a cut-off you can still be DNFed after the
race.
• No cameras/earphones etc. – DSQ

• Dismount before mount/dismount line.
• Volunteers will rack your bike for you - located
according to your ‘time of day’ finish time.

• Tie the bag closed and drop your bag off in the “Bag
Drop Off” zone just outside the tent.
• Medical and Physiotherapy facilities are available in

• Aid stations are approximately every 2km.
• NO Personal Seconding is allowed.
• Cell Phone/MP3 device - DSQ.

• Run cut off based on when you started your race.
• You have only 8.5 hours to complete the entire race.
• NO non-athletes on/over finish line – DSQ.
• No penalty tents on run course– will have number

• Collect your Finisher shirt and use your athlete’s band for
food and drink.

14:00 to 17:00 – need chip & chip belt.
• No chip = no bike
• No bags may be passed over the fence – must be checked
out with your bike.
• If you are sick/injured, family member will need your “bike

– Start time will be registered at the time your timing chip
crosses the Mount / Dismount line.
– The Bike leg cut-off time of 4 hours 05 minutes will still
apply.

• 06:00: Announcement will be made:
– Go to your BIKE bag and prepare for the bike leg.
– Collect your bike ahead of the Start time.
– The Pro Athletes will line up in the chute behind the
Mount/Dismount line: Start at 07:30
– Age Groupers will self-seed themselves in the chute -
behind the Pros: Start at 07:45
– Rolling Start will leave at 5 second intervals.
– Start time will be registered at the time your timing chip
crosses the Mount/Dismount line.
– The Bike leg cut-off time of 4 hours 05 minutes will still
apply.
ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE
• After the Bike, you will transition as normal
to the Run in both scenarios.
• The total race time (now excluding the 1 hour
10 minutes swim time) will remain as 7 hours
20 minutes from the start of your race.
• Once the results have been verified, athletes
who are identified to have missed the cut-off
times will be a DNF after the event/in the final
results.
• Slot allocation (Sunday 24 January 2016) – 17:00 at Orient
Theatre.
• You will NOT be let into slots if you are not in the venue
before the slots ceremony starts – no exceptions!
• You MUST have checked out your bike before coming to
slots – no bikes will be kept for anyone going to slots!
• 30 slots to 2016 IRONMAN® 70.3® World Champs in
Australia.
• Need to pay slot fee on the day to accept slot – payment
by means of credit card: VISA and MasterCard only.
• Slot fee 2016: 465 AUD (Australian Dollar)

EL ICC, doors open at 18:45.
• Buffet opens 18:45.
• Ceremony starts at 19:30 sharp.
• Please note: Athletes MUST collect trophy in

office after event.

Lost & Found at Registration Area, Garden
Court on Monday from 09:00 – 11:00.
