What a year!
I cannot quite believe how
quickly this academic year has
gone! We have faced many
challenges since September
and I am sure there will be
many more to come! But I am
optimistic that the green shoots
of improvement that we are
seeing across the school will
continue to flourish as we
move into next year.
We are saying many goodbyes

embracing significant change.
And finally thank you to the
many parents and carers who
have taken the time to contact
me, both about things that are
going well and not so well. We
really value your feedback and

academic year I hope this
continues.

new challenges. Many of them
have been at Darton for a
significant number of years and
played a key role in its journey.
Few teachers I have ever met
have been as long serving as Mr
Steve Powell who leaves us this
year after serving 41 years as a
teacher here at Darton - quite
r e m a r k a b l e ! W e a l s o s a y
goodbye to Mr Peter Renardson,
Vice Principal. I owe a particular
debt of thanks to Peter, he has
kept me sane since September,
supporting me through thick and
thin through some challenging
times. His patience and integrity
know no bounds!

Break-up for the Summer Holiday
Exam Results Day - 20th August
Year 11 - 10:00am - 14:00pm
If learners are unable to collect
their exam results in person they
may send a representative with
written authorisation confirming
that they give permission for them
to be collected on their behalf.
Alternatively results can be
posted home if a stamped
addressed envelope is given to
the school in advance of results
day.

College re-opens to all learners
on Thursday 3rd September

End of Term Sports Day
Wonderful progress in literacy this week for Brandan Philburn Year 8.
Hannah Todd (Y11), Isabella Watson (Y11), and Anais Wood (Y10) who are members of Barnsley Youth Choir took part in the European Choir Games in Magdeburg last week - the choir won 3 gold medals for their performances in categories Pop/Jazz, Gospel and the Grand Prix of Nations - excellent achievement girls and well done to the Choir!
The last day of term was Sport Day with learners from Years 7, 8 & 9 taking
part in sporting events with Year 10 and 11 learners enjoying the afternoon
spectating. Learners took part in Sprinting, Relays , Shot Putt, Wheelbarrow
race and the egg & spoon race. The winning forms are: -
Year 7 - 3rd place 7JSH, 2nd place 7CLU and 1st place 7ABA
Year 8 - 3rd place 7BT, 2nd place 7BD and 1st place 7BL
Year 9 - 3rd place 8PA, 2nd place 8PD and 1st place 8PR
Prize for the best form participation went to Mr Elliott/Miss Cobley with best
supported team going to Mr Clees form 7BL. Well done to everyone who
took part - the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all learners and staff.
Nurture trip to Tesco
Learners from Nurture visited Tesco
in Penistone this week to learn
about food and to take part in a
tasting session. They also carried
out a food search and assisted in
the bakery and were shown how to
gut and prepare fish. This was a
valuable trip as they were able to
use their social skills to chat with
