Week 5 – 14th November 2018 Sharing Our News
What an amazing turnout for our Meet and Greet Yarning
Circle with our parents and community members. It was
wonderful to share and listen to stories from all of our
elders, families and friends and a huge thanks to Pauline
Mitchell for organising the afternoon. It is important for King
Street Public School to share the knowledge and culture
with all students and today was the first step in working
together to promote Aboriginal education across the
school. We look forward to seeing many of our families join
us for future events.
This Thursday, twelve of our Year 5 students will be
delivering speeches to convince our students that they
should lead our school in 2019. These students have
organised posters for campaigning and have been
rehearsing their speeches for the past week. We are all
looking forward to finding out who will be our next leaders
for next year.
A huge thank to our P&C for purchasing the new book shelf
and lounge area for our library. The furniture is very
modern and bright and students will be able to utilise this
area during class and lunch times.
Our Kindergarten Transition Graduation was a huge
success and I would like to take this opportunity to thank
our parents for their commitment to the program. We
understand how important it is for the students to settle into
a new school and to be able to fit in to the school times,
structures and routines. I would also like to thank all of our
teachers and office staff who were instrumental in providing
such a quality program throughout the eight weeks. We
look forward to seeing all of our new Kinders in 2019.

S3J Haikus Work
Lachlan, Caleb and Murray from S3J have been
hard at work creating amazing haikus.
Haikus is a very short Japanese poem with
seventeen syllables and three lines. In these poems
the lines rarely rhyme.
Here are Lachlan, Caleb and Murrays
Beach, ice blocks, fun times,

Leadership Election Process – 2019 School
Leaders
It is with great pride and excitement that we have
our nominated school leaders for 2019. The
process, in which they were elected, has long been
used at KSPS and has always produced quality
candidates.
It starts with a Stage 3 peer nomination; anyone is
allowed to be nominated by another student in Stage
3. Students have the choice whether they would like
to accept or decline.
Once we have this list (which is usually 15-30
students of each gender) students from Stage 3 then
do a formal ballot to select the top six boys and girls
candidates.
Students who do not make the top 12 candidates
list, still have the opportunity to run for House
Captain and/or become a 009 Leader at KSPS.
These 12 students will complete a nomination form
and then begin the formal Leadership Election
Process. Below is a timeline of events for the
Leadership Election Process.
Timeline:
Thursday 15th November, leadership
speeches commencing at 9:30am.
Nominated leaders will be informed of the
outcome of the voting on Monday 19th
November at 2:30pm in a private meeting.
Tuesday 20th November at the morning
assembly the successful Captains Elect for
2019 will be announced, all parents and
carers welcome.
Tuesday 27th November, House Captains
give short speech and voting takes place in
House Meetings.
Thursday 29th November, House Captains
will be announced at the Morning Assembly.
Presentation Day – Friday 14th December,
School Captains and House Captains are
officially recognised through formal process.
