Week 12To understand that oil was discovered in the UAE
Abu Dhabi is often described as the world’s richest city but in the 1930s the opposite was true.
The UAE was a land of desert inhabited by proud nomadic Bedouin tribes, fishing villages and date farms. Abu Dhabi consisted of several hundred palm huts (barasti), a few coral buildings and the Ruler's Fort. There were no beach clubs, five-star hotels or shopping malls. There weren’t even paved roads or schools or hospitals.
Life in the Emirates has changed a lot in the last 50 years.
What do you think was the main cause of all of the changes?
