Hub-Satellite model
Site A is the Hub(MUMC)where all the resulting and test approval occurs; Site B is the satellite (WL) where the sample resides and is loaded on the instrument
Live date was June 6th, 2014
Distance between WL and MUMC = ~45 km

Hub-satellite model - Efficiencies
What are the realized savings and efficiencies? Transport – reduction in shipment of specimens Change to automation and ImmuLINK resulted in significant tech time efficiencies
Preliminary data = 66 days of GS work Reduction in error – no manual entry of results into LIS Improvement in TAT – MLT can devote time to other work Improvement in work life Replacing MLT with MLA – wage savings
This is a potential savings not a realized savings in our experience With the samples that had positive screens
Savings in reagent cost as there is no need to repeat entire testing at Hub Satellite Gain in access to expertise Improvement in TAT – shipping time would delay TAT

Centralization model
Evaluating processes utilizing Lean Six Sigma
Elimination of samples shipped to multiple sites
Workload and staffing – not balanced
Centralize test resulting to one site eliminating shipping of samples
Increase in MLA skill mix
Better staff utilization; ability to eliminate certain shifts at certain sites
Objectives
CoLabs and ImmuLINK
LHIN Networks
CoLabs and ImmuLink
CoLabs is one of the largest Laboratory Medicine Networks in Canada Works collaboratively with the hospital organizations in the Hamilton Niagara
Haldimand Brant LHIN under a coordinated leadership model. Immucor Inc. and CoLabs Laboratory Medicine Network in Spring 2017
announced a partnership a unified vision for a regional transfusion lab medicine model designed to drive innovation through reagents, scalable automation and data
management solutions The ultimate goal is to improve the overall patient experience and optimize
efficiency, quality and performance across all CoLabs sites. CoLabs will implement one NEO® instrument and one Echo® instrument at each
of its two high volume labs, and one Echo® instrument at each of its other 11 sites. ImmuLINK will connect all Immucor instruments at the 13 sites to allow a shared
model of technical and professional expertise.
Immulink facilitates ….
Standardization of testing platforms across a region thereby promoting standardized SOPs and access to the results from any computer.
Decrease in transportation cost
More efficient tracking of specimens and patient results
Decrease in test redundancy across a region.
Improving Quality Control Tracking QC reagents and usage
Troubleshooting
Education
Promotes integration, efficiency in staffing and centralization of expertise.
Challenges
Accreditation and Proficiency testing
No other comparable process within the country or province
Worked with our accrediting body on proficiency samples and licensing requirements for Hub-Satellite model
LIS build
Interface builds are always challenging
Time and resources
Validation
ImmuLINK improves the quality of service we provide thereby improving patient
care and allows for the operation of lab in a cost efficient way.
