Activity Ideas
Literacy- Draw some farm animals and write a
fact about them.- Can you write some words that rhyme
with pig/cat/dog?- Write out some simple instructions on
how to make a jam sandwich. - Draw a picture of your favourite meal
and write a sentence below to explain why it’s your favourite.
- Look at a picture of a farmyard scene – write some sentences about what you can see.
Maths- When you have made your jam
sandwich, can you cut it in half and then in quarters?
- Can you share out the vegetables with your family?
- If you have a farm set at home, can you count how many animals you have? What happens if you had 1 more/1 less? Can you add the groups of animals together?
- Can you order the animals by height?- Use positional language to describe
where the animal is on the farm.
Understanding the World- Match the adult animal to its baby e.g.
cow to calf, pig to piglet. - Can you match the farm animal to its
home e.g. pig to sty, horse to stable. - Can you name some fruits/vegetables
that might grow on farms? - Can you sort the fruits from
vegetables in your kitchen? - Make some bread or a fruit kebab.- Plant and grow some vegetables in
your garden.
Expressive Arts and Design- Make a farm animal from junk
modelling. - Draw a healthy meal on a paper plate. - Do some vegetable printing. - Draw a picture/do a painting/make
from playdough, your favourite farmyard animal.
- Sing ‘Old MacDonald had a farm’ and make some musical instruments to play along!
Personal, Social, Emotional Development
- How do we care for animals?- Discuss ways to keep fit and healthy.- Discuss your feelings with your family
and make a face from a paper plate to show someone who is happy or sad.
Communication and Language- Listen to some instructions from your
parents/carers on how to make a jam sandwich and see if you can follow them.
- Listen to some farm stories (some examples in the pictures above!) and retell/discuss them with your family and friends.
- Play animal guess who with your family – describe an animal by giving clues and see if they can guess the animal you are describing.
Physical Development- Look in your kitchen cupboard (with an
adult!) Can you sort the healthy from the unhealthy foods?
- Try some animal yoga on Cosmic Kids online.
- Can you dig a vegetable patch in your garden?
