Implementation of new Bunker Adjustment Formula effective 1st January 2019
Bunker is one of the important cost components for a container shipping line. And as you are aware, IFO 380 price has shown strong fluctuations in the recent months.In addition, a new IMO (International Maritime Organization) low sulphur regulation will be applied to all container shippingcompanies effective 1st January 2020. The regulation stipulates a maximum sulphur content threshold of 0.5% for marine fuels over 100% of the sea distance for any maritime services. To be compliant with this new regulation APL will use low sulphur fuel (LSFO) and the cost per ton is expected to be significantly higher than IFO 380.
Effective 1st January 2019, in order to ensure the sustainability and reliability of our services in this volatile environment, APL will introduce a new quarterly Bunker Adjustment Formula (BAF) for all contracts with duration exceeding 3 months.
Please be advised that APL will apply the following Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) with effect from 1 January 2019 until furthernotice, for the service scope stated below.

Charge codes / Project LIFT (BAF related charge codes)
The code for the Emergency Bunker Surcharge for Europe-Asia/Asia-Europe in 2018 has been ‘FAF’.Effective 2019, ‘FAF’ is the tariff code for the long term BAF (all trades).The new code for the Emergency Bunker Surcharge for Europe-Asia/Asia-Europe in 2019 is ‘EBS’ (‘BRC’ for Transatlantic).

Calculation basis for EBS/BRC/FAF (BAF)/LSF
EBS/BRC = monthly adjustment based on Brent oil price:
FAF (“APL BAF”) = quarterly update based on Fuel Oil price (now: IFO 380; 2020: fuel oil with 0.5% sulphur cap):
- Quarterly average IFO380 price of 3 major bunkering hubs, Singapore/Rotterdam/Houston will be adopted.- The following weightage will be assign to IFO380 price, Singapore (50%) / Rotterdam (40%) / Houston (10%) weightage.
LSF = monthly update based on price for fuel with 0.1% Sulphur cap (relevant for Emission Control Areas, e.g. North Sea, Baltic Sea, Shanghai/Ningbo etc.).
New Pick Up / Drop Off Guidelines for Q1 - 2019

Suspension of services to Khor Fakkan (UAE)
Due to a lack of direct coverage in favour of Jebel Ali and the absence of viable feeder services, APL have decided to temporarily cease acceptance of cargo to/from Khor Fakkan (UAE). We will inform you once we are going to resume services to/from Khor Fakkan.
In this context please be advised that we are operating two weekly services into the Arab Gulf with competitive transit times and a wide port coverage.
