TheTennesseeValleyChapterofWildOnesisledbya100%volunteerboard,andallofourprogramsandactivitiesareimplemented100%byvolunteers(onlyourinstructorsandpresentersarecompensatedinanyway).WeinviteALLWildOnesmemberstobecomemoreinvolved.Volunteeringisthebestwaytomeetotherswhoarepassionateaboutbiodiversityanddeterminedtogardenandliveresponsibly.Membersareanunrivaledsourceofknowledgeonregionalconditionsandplants,andarewillingtoshareboth.Volunteeringhelpsexpandthechapter’sworkinourcommunityandincreaseourimpactasweworktosavetheworld,oneyardatatime!And,ifyou’reworkingtowardyourCertificateinNativePlants,yourvolunteertimecountstowardyourvolunteerrequirements.Traditionally,membersvolunteertojoinoneormoreofourcommittees.Committeeshaveoneortwochairpersons,whoareusuallymembersoftheTennesseeValleyChapterBoard.Eachcommitteeisresponsibleforspecificfunctions,andcommitteemembersmayassistwithselectedactivities.Noexperienceisrequiredtojoinanyofourcommittees–allyouneediswillingnesstojumpinandhelpout.Pleaseselectanyoftheactivitiesdescribedinthisbrochurethatareofinteresttoyou…andthenreturntheVolunteerSignupFormtous.Wewillbeintouchwithyouwhenmeetingsarescheduledorasopportunitiesarise.

VolunteerOpportunities…❑ Symposium

TheSymposiumCommitteeassumesresponsibilityforthePlantNatives!symposium,usuallyheldinthespringeveryyear.Volunteerscanchoosetohelpinavarietyofcapacities:themeandspeakerselection;speakerliaisonandsupport;venuecoordination(includingmealplanningandtechsupport);vendorandexhibitorsolicitationandcoordination;marketingandpublicity;registration;eventgreeters;andmore.Onthiscommittee,there’saroleforeveryone!

❑ ProgramsTheProgramCommitteeisresponsibleforselectingspeakersanddecidingtopicsforourmonthlypublicprograms.Committeememberscontactprospectivespeakersandhelpconfirmarrangementsfortheirpresentations.Mostoftheplanningworkisdonebeginninginthesummer.

❑ PublicInformationThePublicInformationCommitteeisresponsibleforoutreachefforts,includingsettingupandstaffinginformationtablesatcommunityevents(e.g.,ReflectionRidingandCrabtreeFarmsPlantSales,PollinatorRallies,HamiltonCountyFair,etc.).Wealsoneedmorevolunteerstoactasa“SpeakersBureau,”makingpresentationstocommunitygroupsaboutnativeplants,pollinators,risksofpesticides,etc.

❑ Membership

TheMembershipCommitteeisresponsiblefordecidingandcoordinating“members-onlyevents,”includingseasonalsocialprograms.Agroupofcommitteemembersserveas“greeters”forourmonthlypublicmeetings.Weneedmorevolunteerswillingtoservein“hospitality”roles.TheMembershipCommitteeisalsoresponsibleforadministrativefunctionsincludingmembercommunications,newmemberinformationpackets,renewalreminders,andthememberdirectory.

❑ Marketing&Publicity

Althoughthereisnotamarketingandpublicitycommitteeatthistime,interestedindividualsareinvitedtoworkwithvariouscommitteestohelppromoteawarenessofWildOnesprograms,classes,symposiumandotheradvocacyefforts.Willingnesstocontactlocalmedia,preparepressreleases,supportsocialmedia,etc.isneeded.

❑ CertificateinNativePlants

CommitteemembersfocuseffortsondecidingtopicsandchoosingqualifiedspeakersforthecoreandelectiveCertificateinNativePlantsclasseseachyear.Committeememberscontactprospectiveinstructors,gathernecessaryclassinformationfromtheinstructors,andensurethatneededclassresourcematerialsareavailable.OthercommitteememberssupportthevolunteerCNPManagerbyservingas“classhosts”throughouttheyear.

❑ LandscapeRecognition

TheLandscapeRecognitionCommitteeisresponsiblefortheannualawardspresentedtoindividualsandorganizationsthathavecreatedexemplarygardensthatutilizenativeplantsandareenvironmentallyresponsible.Volunteersonthiscommitteecoordinatethenominationandselectionprocess.

❑ NativePlant&PollinatorGardens

TheChattanoogaAreaPollinatorPartnership(CHAPP),aninitiativespearheadedbythechapter,needs“oncall”volunteerstohelpplan,establishandperiodicallymaintainlocalnativeplantand“pollinatorgardens.”Wehopetoexpandthisactivityforschoolsandneighborhoodassociations.

❑ NativePlantGardenTour

Volunteersareneededtoplanandcoordinateanannual“GardenTour”ofnativeplantgardensinSeptember2018.Volunteerscanassistinmanyways:gardenselection;registration;eventgreeters;andmore.
