SPRING 2019
PaceBus.com/Pulse | PAGE 1
Developing an efficient public transportation network plays
a crucial role in building communities that meet the needs
of residents and those who work and play there. Pulse is
perfect for those who want fast, frequent, and reliable transportation to destinations throughout Chicagoland.
WE KEEP ROLLINGPace has one Pulse Line launching this year and three new lines in the works!
Milwaukee LineIt’s about to get real…the new Milwaukee Line, that is! Construction is underway and new Pulse stations are forming along Milwaukee Avenue between Golf Mill Shopping Center and the Jefferson Park Transit Center. Service on the Milwaukee Line is anticipated to begin in 2019.
Dempster LineGet ready, get set, design! This year, we’ll move into the design phase for the Dempster Line. Pace will develop a cohesive new Pulse Line between the Davis Street CTA/Metra Station in Evanston to the O’Hare International Airport and Metra O’Hare Transfer station. Construction funding has been secured through a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant.
Halsted LineAn ideal location. South Halsted Street has many connections to other transit services and the future CTA Red Line extension. Pace and CTA have joined forces to develop a Pulse Halsted Line and will soon begin the environmental review process.
95th Street LineGetting started. Planning for a new Pulse Line along 95th Street between Chicago and Palos Hills has also begun. With a variety of entertainment centers, employers, hospitals, schools, and events, 95th Street offers a great opportunity to improve transit – and your transit experience.
We conducted in-depth studies of the existing Pace Route 381 service along 95th Street and found that people aren’t just using bus service for their daily commute; they’re also catching a ride to a variety of destinations throughout the day including the Bridgeview Courthouse and Moraine Valley Community College. There are also opportunities to connect transit riders to bike and pedestrian paths, like the Major Taylor Trail, and other transit services including the CTA Red Line 95th/Dan Ryan Station and other CTA routes, other Pace bus routes, Metra Rock Island District Line Longwood Station and Metra Southwest Service Oak Lawn Patriot Station. The large number of destinations and transit connections along with high existing ridership in this corridor means that 95th Street is a great candidate for a new Pulse Line.
Once constructed, the Pulse 95th Street Line will connect to future Pulse Lines along Halsted Street and Harlem and Cicero Avenues.
Guiding the processTo gather initial input on the proposed 95th Street Line, we asked community leaders to join a Corridor Advisory Group (CAG). Members include elected officials and representatives from municipalities, counties, emergency services, chambers of commerce, schools, libraries, transit/transportation agencies, and environmental agencies. The first CAG meeting was held on December 19, 2018, and members of the group were asked to provide insights on community development plans and station locations as well as for their input on design and operational elements. Their invaluable input will help us refine the proposed 95th Street Line prior to conducting an environmental review and holding public meetings.
Next on our to-do listFeedback from the Corridor Advisory Group – and YOU – will be used to select the preliminary station locations for the 95th Street Line. The project team will develop preliminary station concepts, an operating plan, and cost estimates, which will all be included in the Project Definition Report.

Why 95th Street?
The Halsted Line includes innovative methods
to keep the Pulse buses on schedule. Queue
jumps – allowing buses to “jump” ahead of
general traffic at specific intersections – are
proposed specifically for this route. In addition,
the project team is considering using permanent
or peak-hour-only dedicated bus lanes adjacent
to the curb. Thanks to an Invest in Cook grant,
we are on track to conduct the environmental
review in early-Summer 2019.
The South Halsted Bus Corridor Enhancement Project was initiated by the CTA in partnership with Pace. The project area is located in the communities of Harvey, Calumet Park, Calumet Township, Riverdale, and the City of Chicago neighborhoods of West Pullman, Morgan Park, Roseland, Washington Heights, and Auburn Gresham. Running between the CTA Red Line 95th/Dan Ryan Station and Pace’s Harvey Transportation Center, the Halsted Line is anticipated to have 16 new Pulse stations and would complement the existing Pace Routes 352 and 359. It would even offer connections to bike and pedestrian paths like the Major Taylor Trail. The Project Definition Report is complete and includes preliminary station locations and outlines preliminary service and operating plans, and project cost estimates.

Great idea! I would probably travel the route
more often, knowing that my wait would be 10 mins or less.
