As part of Child Safety Week, Falkirk Community Trustin partnership with, Scottish Swimming, The RoyalLifesaving Society (RLSS), The Royal National LifeboatInstitution (RNLI) and Scottish Canals are running asummer safety week at the Helix from Monday 1st Juneto Friday 5th June. The aim of the week is to educateand raise awareness of safety in and around the water.

Children from primary schools across the country are beinggiven the chance to learn about the dangers posed by openwater and the precautions to take. Drowning is still the thirdhighest cause of accidental death amongst children.Approximately 20 per cent of all drowning’s are atcoastal locations and around a further 62 per centare at inland waters – rivers, lakes, canals, reservoirs.

Scottish Swimming and Falkirk Community Trustrecognises swimming in open water such as lakes,rivers, canals and the sea is very different from thepool and that the ability to spot dangers and aknowledge of water safety is as important as beingable to swim.

We have a host of school resources from the RNLIand RLSS that we will be able to send out to schoolsprior to the event.

We can arrange a day package of activities for yourschool at the Helix with a range of additional chargeableoptions listed over leaf. Just choose your day; there areonly 4 spaces each day.

Weather and ClothingScotland’s weather even in June can be unpredictable. The Helix can be quite exposedand not a huge amount of shelter. Jackets and wellies are essential, some additionalspare dry clothing. Don’t forget the sun screen. Sun burn can occur even on overcastdays. Please bring a packed lunch and drinks. There is a café on site which will be openfor Drinks and Snacks only. Places are limited and will be issued on a first come firstserved basis. Closing date 17th May 2015.
