B1. Introduction B1.1. The AIS type classification has been converted to the DECC (formerly BERR) Methodology “Vessel Types involved in Navigational Activities - Example Checklist”, reproduced below (Ref. i).

B1.2. It is noted that the DECC list is not comprehensive, for example, it does not include explicit categories for vessels such as Ro-Ro and Wind Farm Support. Where this is the case, marine knowledge has been used to classify vessels, e.g., Ro-Ro vessels classified as “Medium Vessels – Ro-Ro” and Wind Farm as “Other Operational Vessels – Wind Farm”. A number of other additional categories were also included.

B2. Ship Types B2.1. The overall percentage distribution of vessels tracked within 5nm of the Project during the 42-day survey based on the general (top-level) DECC categorisation is presented in Figure 2.1.
