What a blessed day we had on Sunday! So many of you were here to learn more
about parenting and generational ministry through the teachings of Richard Ross.
Powerful stuff. The worship times and Sunday School will be available on video for
those of you who either couldn’t make it or who want to review what you learned.
The luncheon built a lot of bridges and gave some great direction for our parents and kids as well.
Just a great day.
But this is not the end of it. This Sunday, during the Sunday School hour, Bill and Brent will be
teaching our parents the strategy the church is going to use to help families raise their kids from the
cradle to the letting go. You will be encouraged to see this road map. So please make every effort to
be here.
In worship this Sunday, I’ll be preaching about marriage: love at second sight. If you know couples
that are needing some refreshment, please invite them to join you in worship. If you’re single and
hope to marry someday, this will also be an encouragement for you. See you Sunday.
Next week, January 26, the sermon will be for children, so I’m asking our parents to bring their
children to the front of the sanctuary that Sunday so they’ll be close and find it easier to connect with
what’s going on.
Your Pastor,
John

What Generation Ministry Looks Like @ FBC:
THIS SUNDAY MORNING-9:30 in the sanctuary
For Everyone!
We had a GREAT launch last Sunday and it was a blessing to have Richard Ross with us for the
day. Richard challenged us with great principles in scripture regarding spiritual influence both in
our personal lives and in the lives we have influence. This Sunday we get a little more specific as
we answer the question: “For FBC Hot Springs, how does God want us as a church to do this?
What does this look like in our homes and lives on a regular, ongoing basis?” That is what we will
be sharing with you this Sunday at 9:30.
EVERYONE is invited to join us for this time because, as we wrote last week, this is a ministry
emphasis that will have something for every age group and every life stage. Over the last few
weeks we’ve heard a few myths floating around about who Generation Ministry is for and who it’s
not for. So let’s take a moment to tackle those myths floating around…
Myth: It’s only for people with kids at home.
Fact: Generation ministry encompasses principles that can be applied from the cradle to the
grave. One of the strongest spiritual influences in my (Bill) life was my grandfather. I
can’t tell you the impact he had on my faith-and we lived three hours apart my entire life!
Myth: I don’t have kids and/or am not married yet, so it’s not important to me right now.
Fact: I have had a handful of lung surgeries over the years and I can say with full confi-
dence that I hope the doctor learned ahead of time what to do and that he didn’t wait until
he got to the OR to decide to figure out how to do the surgery. That would have been tragic
for me! Yet this is how many people approach marriage and parenting. So even if you
aren’t married and/or don’t have kids yet, don’t wait until those events happen to begin pre-
paring and learning. Learn NOW! And again, this isn’t just about kids-there will principles
and things we will be doing that will apply to married couples who plan to have kids as
well. You are a family when you get married, not just when you have kids.
We hope to see you this Sunday at 9:30! We can’t wait to share the vision God has given!

Coming Soon! A Missions Adventure in Peru Peru is a diverse land with a rich history of ancient cultures, including the Incan Empire. In our Interna-tional Mission study in January 2014, we will explore this country that stretches from the Pacific Coast to the Andes Mountains to the Amazon Basin. We will learn how God is moving in Peru today through Inter-national Mission Board workers and native Peruvians. This study is also a way for to learn how each of us can become more energized in prayer, giving and volunteerism for efforts in Peru and other parts of the world. Pray, Give, Go! Come join us for a fun day as we "visit Peru" in Room 133 at First Baptist Church on Thursday, January 23, 2014. The tour begins at 10:00 a.m. and will end around 12:30p.m with a light lunch. Everyone is welcome, but please call Janie Woods at 767-1386 to reserve your place on the tour.
HAVE ANY EXTRA YARN? The Knitting Group is making 100’s of hats and
scarves for Mission trips and could use any extra
yarn you have and aren’t using. Just drop off at
the church office.
Thanks!
