Also, want to thank Ex-‐Officio Members Liz Goodman and Margot Menes who are ac>ve par>cipants in Women’s League. With many of our programs and mee>ngs held at Temple Beth Sholom, I have appreciated the support of Clergy, TBS Staff, Schools, Maintenance, Security, our Congrega>on and the Temple Beth Sholom Board of Directors. During the first year of my Presidency, the Schwartz Judaic Shop went through a magnificent renova>on and I would like to thank Priscilla Schwartz for her generous dona>on to help with these efforts. Racine Murdock, Judaic Shop Chairperson, and her helpers give our customers wonderful service as volunteers each month. Thank you! Vash>’s Banquet last year was a successful fundraiser and Women’s League Interna>onal Conven>on this year, held at the J.W. MarrioU in Summerlin, was a memorable experience! For the first >me, WLTBS was the recipient of the Jewels in the Crown Award, announced this year at Women’s League Interna>onal Conven>on. We were honored at the highest level, Emerald! The past two years have brought WL Interna>onal President, Rita Wertlieb to town for Interna>onal Conven>on and last year she spoke at our Torah Fund event. It also brought PSW Regional President, Renee Ravich, in last year for our Women’s League Shabbat and she will join us again next month at Donor brunch. Our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have provided our members with a wide range of ac>vi>es through our Book Club, Chai Tunes, Circle of Prayers, Girl’s Time Out (G.T.O.), Keeping in Touch (K.I.T), Kitchen Krew, and Shiva Sisters over the past two years. Whether you are a regular at our monthly SIGs, or just like to show up for our larger events such as our Membership Brunch, Torah Fund Brunch, Women’s League Shabbat, Annual Elec>on Mee>ng/Program, Board Installa>ons, Pacific Southwest Conference, or Donor Brunch...there is always something for everyone to enjoy and a whole lot more! So, as this fiscal year soon comes to a close, I want to thank you...our Membership...for being an important par>cipant in the success of the past two years in so many ways! Your >me spent as successful Chairpersons, CommiUee Members, Board Members, Sponsors and AUendees have improved our organiza>on and made it prosper. Your support has made my journey a pure pleasure as your 2011-‐2013 President and for this you have my sincerest apprecia>on!
With warm regards, Barbara Lukasiewicz President Women’s League of Temple Beth Sholom

WL BOOK CLUB by Sharon Lancz “The Street Sweeper” THIS BOOK WILL BE REVIEWED IN AUGUST, DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED. For information, contact Sharon at 243-3151. “How breathtakingly close we are to lives that at first seem so far away. From the civil rights struggle in the United States to the Nazi crimes against humanity in Europe, there are more stories than people passing one another every day on the bustling streets of every crowded city. Only some stories survive to become history. Recently released from prison, Lamont Williams, an African American probationary janitor in a Manhattan hospital and father of a little girl he can’t locate, strikes up an unlikely friendship with an elderly patient, a Holocaust survivor who was a prisoner in Auschwitz-Birkenau. A few blocks uptown, historian Adam Zignelik, an untenured Columbia professor, finds both his career and his long-term romantic relationship falling apart. Emerging from the depths of his own personal history, Adam sees, in a promising research topic suggested by an American World War II veteran, the beginnings of something that might just save him professionally, and perhaps even personally. As these men try to survive in early-twenty-first-century New York, history comes to life in ways neither of them could have foreseen. Two very different paths—Lamont’s and Adam’s—lead to one greater story as The Street Sweeper, in dealing with memory, love, guilt, heroism, the extremes of racism and unexpected kindness, spans the twentieth century to the present, and spans the globe from New York to Chicago to Auschwitz. Epic in scope, this is a remarkable feat of storytelling.”

SHIVA MITZVAHAmong the many wonderful things that Women's League does is provide a Shiva Mitzvah for our members and their immediate family. At this difficult time of bereavement the family is contacted and if they wish, a light meal and beverages are provided after the funeral service. Women's League has made this commitment as a way to provide comfort and understanding to our sisterhood community. Diane Kaiser & Lois Joseph, Co-Chairs

It's been a great year. Our membership has grown to include so many wonderful women. We have worked together to increase our membership, to create many fun events, and to raise funds for our Jewish community. I have enjoyed sharing time with all the Women's League Members. These women are my friends and my sisters. We have two wonderful events left for the year. Please be sure to attend and to bring your friends. If you know of someone who has not yet joined, if they join now, they will be included as a member for this year through June of 2014. Finally, as Membership Vice President, I want to offer my deepest appreciation to all those who have been so helpful with the myriad of membership tasks over the past two years. I look forward to seeing all of you at Women’s League Shabbat and the Donor Brunch.
