VIATOR is published quarterly by the Clerics of St. Viator, the Viatorians, for friends, families, parishioners and alumni of Viatorian apostolates.
The Clerics of St. Viator are religious priests and brothers sent by the Catholic Church to teach the Faith and proclaim Jesus Christ as Gospel. In parishes, schools, and a variety of other ministries Viatorians work with Christian communities to live, deepen and celebrate their faith.
Our legal title is: Clerics of St. Viator.
From The Provincial's Perspective ___ _ Dear Friends,
Collaboration is something that is easy to talk about but often
times very difficult to accomplish. This edition of VIATOR
provides an excellent example of collaboration in church
ministry. During this past Lent, Father John Eck, C.S.V.,
Pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Springfield, Illinois, spent a
week preaching a parish mission at St. Thomas More Parish in
Henderson, Nevada. I hope that you like the story and its
description of how two Viatorian parishes have collaborated and work closely in
ministry for the church. If you have other examples of "cross country"
collaboration or any suggestions as to how we might better foster a spirit of
collaboration among our Viatorian parishes and schools, please feel free to write
and make your suggestions.
In this issue you will also read about a 70th birthday celebration held for Brother
Leo Ryan, C.S.V., at St. Viator High School in early April. This event raised
significant money for the Ryan Scholarship Fund designated for students at St.
Viator High School.
You may also notice a new feature in our newsletter - Points to Ponder. From
time to time, we get requests regarding the possible ways in which individuals
can make gifts to the Viatorians. These are often among my most favorite letters
and phone calls! Seriously though, we thought it might be helpful to provide
some information regarding gift possibilities for the Viatorians, and so we offer
this new feature in our regular newsletter.
Finally, this issue of VIATOR includes a picture of the new Provincial Council -
there may even be a few faces that you recognize! The new Provincial Council
began its term of service on Sunday, June 8, 1997 during an Evening Prayer
Service held in the Chapel at our Viatorian Province Center in Arlington Heights.
I hope you enjoy all of the features in this edition of VIATOR. It is a pleasure to
continue to communicate with you and to share the Viatorian story in its many
phases. Please know that you and your families continue to be remembered in
the prayers of all the Viatorians. We are grateful for your support and continued
loyalty to our community.
Sincerely,
~ ;11. f?~, csv
