The Supreme Courts two judges bench
comprising of Justices AK Patnaik and FMI
Kalifullah asked Indian Cricket Board
President N. Srinivasan to immediately quit on his
own or be forced out by its order to facilitate a fair
impartial probe into the IPL betting scandal that
involves his son-in-law GurunathMeiyappan
alleged to be involved in the spot fixing and bettingscandal.
The Supreme Court in October 2013 formed a

itted a report on 10thFebruary consisting of more than 100 pages, their
findings over the alleged betting and match-fixing of six indian players and
also charges against Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals teams. The
Committee indicted Srinivasans son-in-law in the alleged spot fixing and
betting scandal and also named some cricketers playing for the national team.
The bench observed why isSrinivasan sticking to his chair?Justice Patnaik
commented that unless the BCCI President steps down, there wont be a fair
enquiry. The man at the top must go. It is nauseating. Justice Kalifullahsaid
if there has to be a fair and dispassionate enquiry, Srinivasan must step
down. He further said that though there is no definite finding in the report,
the allegations are so serious and that they require further investigation while
the BCCI cannot do on its own and has to be by an outside agency. The
bench gave Srinivasan to take a decision in this matter in two days time since
the next hearing falls on 27thMarch 2014.
The 69 year old Srinivasan heads India Cements as Vice President which
was in the brink a decade ago made a remarkable turnaround that made the
company becoming a top cement maker in the country. But amidst all the
controversies, Srinivasan managed to make the BCCI more profitable by
crafting a rejig in the international cricket council and power to the Indian
Board and made him as the ICC chairman. Srinivasans first innings in the
cricket administration was in 1998 when he became Vice president of the
Tamilnadu Cricket Association. A.C. Muthiah, big industrialist and cricket
administrator was his mentor. He served under him for four years. By 2002,
he became the president and after 3 years he had appeared at the national
level. In 2008, when india Cements joined the Cricket arena which won the
bet for the Chennai franchise of the IPL namely Chennai Super Kings.
Muthiah sued him on charges of conflict of interest as Srinivasan had held a
top post at BCCI when bidding happened. The above case is now pending in
the Supreme Court and later he fellout with Lalitmodi, the architect of IPL.The matter started from Bombay High court which quashed the BCCI
decision to appoint two retired judges as a probe panel which gave clean
chits to both Srinivasan and his son-in-law Meyiappan .BCCI and Cricket
Association of Bihar had challenged the High court order which made the
Apex court to appoint a three member panel. His position had become
tenable as president of BCCI and also as chairman of International Cricket
Council. The next ICC chairman may be likely some nominated by BCCI.
On 27thmarch 2014 BCCI chief N.Srinivasan offered to set aside till further
investigation if any ordered by the supreme court into IPL spot and match
fixing allegations are over. Supreme court said all persons connected to
CSK(Chennai super kings) owner India cements must be excluded from the
BCCI management. So also, it suggested CSK and Rajasthan Royals need not
be part of IPL due to allegations against the franchise owners. Bench suggested
that Sunil Gavasakar can be made as interim BCCI President and Supreme
Court wanted BCCIs reply by 28thMarch.
They replied that according to BCCi constitution only the senior vice-
president will officiate as president, not an outsider, not even a non-member
of BCCI like Sunil Gavaskar . If CSK and RR are suspended from
participation, the league would be reduced to 6 teams. The number of games
will be reduced to 34 from 60. The total overall loss will be around 20,000 cr.
Advertisement revenue could drop around 5% leading to 390 to 550cr loss.
The two teams would have to pay their players 10% of bid amount.
On their submission, after reviewing all the facts, the bench pronounced
a balanced sound interim order on 28thMarch which is a landmark event in
the annals of Indian Cricketing history. The order reads as ShivlalYadav, the
senior vice president of BCCI will be the interim overall president of BCCI
in the place of N.Srinivasan . Sunil Gavasakar will discharge the functions as
interim president only for IPL. The bench asked Gavaskar to be out of
contracts. He will be adequately compensated for the interim job. There will
be no ban on IPL and also players playing in IPL. Supreme Court permitted
CSK and RR to play for IPL.
The Supreme Court verdict is an unparalled move at top level sport, one
design to restore credibility not just in the tournament and cricket but India
itself. This tall order is most welcomed by all cricket loving fans in India and
abroad, instilling confidence. But decisive criminal action must be initiatedeven by ordering a thorough CBI probe to nail the culprits and to clean up the
game. The final verdict will be pronounced on the 16thApril 2014, covering
all aspects of complaintswith regard to IPL. It is indeed a warning signal for
BCCI into its conduct in future and should exercise more carefulness as
matured watch dog that should enhance the prestige of the game and honorto
the country in the eyes of the world.

SIG - Your Gateway to global opportunities!
Yoga, for long, has been
considered as passive,
monotonous and traditional
form of exercise. The truth is
that the form of yoga widely
taught in India has lost its
freshness and spontaneity.
Many people who have been
practicing yoga for 20 years,
are still pot-bellied and unfit.
The question that comes
naturally is this: How could an
overweight person withoutstrength, stamina or agility
could move towards the higher
practices of yoga effectively?
Thus was born the idea to
develop a new form of yoga.

SUMMER CAMP!!!Selecting a right camp for
my child?
When children get out of
school for the summer, parents are
often left wondering what theyregoing to do to keep them
the natural, most parents decide
based on where their neighbor
send their children than
recognizing what is important for
their children. Here is a quick
pointer for all parents.
Children need to get involved
with fun intensity activities oftheir interest outside of their
school routines. There should
not be any academic oriented
activities in the camp.
A well organized summer
camp should offer the following
benefits:
At camp children play.
Camp teaches children
that they can.
Camp creates friendship.
Camp builds teamwork.
Camp is real and action
oriented. Camp expands your
childs abilities. Camps provide
the right platform, instruction
and facilities for the children to
enhance their artistic talents and
their adventure skills. The sheer

Once upon a time, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove
the huge rock. Many people came by; and simply walked around
it. Many loudly blamed the King for not keeping the roads clear,
but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a poor man came along carrying a load of firewood. Upon
approaching the boulder, the poor man laid down his burden andtried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the poor man picked up
his load of firewood; he noticed a purse lying on the road where
the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a
note from the King indicating that the gold was for the person who
removed the boulder from the roadway.
The poor man learned what many of us never understand!
Every difficulty presents an opportunity to improve our condi-
tion.
