NOT AT RISK...AT OPPORTUNITY
“It is better to be prepared for an opportunityand not have one than to have an opportunity
and not be prepared.”
- Whitney M. Young, Jr.
Dear Friends and Partners,
As the Urban League of Central Carolinas celebrates 35 years of service to our community, we are encouraged by support-
ers and customers who are determined to be “Not at Risk… AT OPPORTUNITY!” This past year has been our greatest year
of opportunity. Fortunately, we have supporters like you who have made it possible.
This past year Jacob’s Ladder, a dynamic job readiness agency, merged with the Urban League to create a continuum of
care and OPPORTUNITIES in the workforce sector for low to moderate income families. This past year marked the end of
our Five Year Strategic Plan, and during that period, our program graduates earned over $50 million in salaries and new
OPPORTUNITIES to support their families. We launched the Bank of Urban League of Central Carolinas for the under and
non-banked in our community. Hundreds of individuals have bank accounts and are bankable for the first time or have a
second chance OPPORTUNITIES to become part of our financial system with many of our large bank partners. We have
provided $3.5million in loans to small and minority business. These companies hire people in the communities we serve.
These are but a few of the OPPORTUNITIES we have provided with your help.
This coming year we will launch our Entrepreneurial Academy, giving individuals the OPPORTUNITY to own and operate
their own businesses. Our merger with Jacob’s Ladder will allow both agencies to serve 20% more people seeking OPPOR-
TUNITIES for training and jobs. Our Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning Program provided OPPORTUNITIES for
training, but now provides service to the community and small business 30% below market value. We will expand our
Linking Youth to Technology and national certification programs into new schools to give our youth the OPPORTUNITY to
develop skills for the 21st century.
We can all be AT-OPPORTUNITY with your continued support. This OPPORTUNITY PACKET is designed to help you touch
the lives of thousands of adults and youths as they achieve their dreams and help our region be competitive.
You are the reason we are AT-OPPORTUNITY. Please support our community through your sponsorship.
Yours AT-OPPORTUNITY,
Kaniche Cezar Dr. Patrick C. Graham
