So without much further ado, Sorors, welcome to the Health Corner…
February is Heart Month and in honor of Heart Month, I decided to chat with one of UAO’s own to talk about being heart healthy….
The Doctor is in… Welcome to the UAO Health Corner
By Soror Dr. Donna
I spent a few minutes with Soror Nurse Sabrina Thomas, and here are a few tips she offered: Sorors can reduce risk for heart disease with a healthy diet, getting at
least 30 minutes of daily physical activity & proper management of stress. A few physical activities that Sorors can begin doing immediately include: Taking the stairs instead of elevators Parking further away than usual when shopping Taking walking breaks at work Soror Nurse Sabrina also offered a few red flags to be aware. Should you notice any of these, be sure to seek immediate medical attention. The common signs of a heart attack are: Sudden, intense chest pain Pain or discomfort in the stomach, one or both arms, back, shoulder, neck or jaw Shortness of breath Sweating (often a cold, clammy sweat), nausea or lightheadedness Women, however, are more likely to have “non-classic” symptoms: Mild chest discomfort, pressure, squeezing, tightness or fullness Weakness Unusual fatigue Sleep disturbances Indigestion, nausea or vomiting Anxiety Sorors, to learn more about Heart Health and how to reduce your risk, refer to the Free Digital book at Digital Book Link In the words of Soror Sabrina: “Stay Healthy and Take Heart!”
Sorors, now that we’ve covered the physical health of our hearts, let’s not forget that our hearts need to be emotionally and spiritually healthy, too!
There are many things we could do to keep our hearts “feeling” healthy, one of them is service!
A 2013 research study published in the journal of Psychology and Aging reported that “adults who volunteered on a regular basis were less likely to develop high blood pressure. High blood pressure is an important indicator of health because it contributes to heart disease, stroke, and premature death”.
You can read more about that study here: Heart Awareness Article
February is Heart Health Awareness Month
Finally, I thought a nice close to this month’s column would be to offer a visual
recap of some of the UAO activities

For this 1st issue, I decided to stop to chat with one
of our UAO Stars…
Because this is Heart Health Awareness month and
we now know that our heart health is related to
healthy eating , exercise, and SERVICE … I would be
remiss if I didn’t take time to talk with one of the
recently honored UAO Grammy Award Winners:
Soror Kim was recently
awarded the UAO Grammy
Award for leading the 2015
Cluster Registration
Sub-Committee.
Listen to what she had to say
about service:
Q: Soror Kim, why do you
serve?
A: “I serve not expecting
anything in return. I do what I
do because I love to do it… but
it is nice to be recognized”.
Soror Kim’s words reflect a
HEART for service!

Get Organized: Why Aren't You Using a Password
Benefits of Using a Password Manager
There are so many advantages to using a password manager, but let
me point to two:
First, password managers save you from having to remember your passwords. When you try to remember your passwords, you end up using some of the worst passwords imaginable. Don't do that.
Second, because you don't have to remember your passwords, it's possible to have strong, unique passwords for every single one of your online accounts. My colleague Eric Griffith has some tips on how to create strong, unique passwords. Emmanuel Schalit, CEO of the password manager company Dashlane, defines a strong password as one that has "a minimum of eight characters, and contains upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols." Good thing with a password manager, you only have to create a password once (the master password that unlocks the password manager itself). After that, the password manager can generate all your other passwords for you, taking strength into account.

Pearlie White Wisdom Did you know? •You should brush your teeth twice a day with a soft bristled toothbrush? The size and shape of your brush should fit your mouth allowing you to reach all areas. •You should replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed? A worn toothbrush won't do a good job of cleaning your teeth. Make sure to use an ADA endorsed fluoride toothpaste.

•As soon as the first baby tooth appears, it should be brushed? Not with a washcloth, but with an age appropriate soft toothbrush smeared with a quarter of a pea sized amount of fluoride free toothpaste •That a child's first dental visit should occur either by the first birthday or six months after the first tooth comes in?
