Theprojectfocuseson climateand disease
inSenegal, Ghanaand Malawi andaims
togive decisionmakers thenecessarytimeto deploy interventionmethodsto
helppreventlarge scale spreadofdiseases
suchasRiftValley fever andmalaria. It
is thought that climatechangewill alter
globaldisease distributions, andalthough
scientists havesignificant knowledge of
theclimate triggers forparticulardiseases,
theQWeCIproject bringsmuch needed
research tohelp understandhow farinto
thefuture theseeventscan bepredicted.
Theproject aims to understand at amore
fundamental level theclimate drivers ofthe
vector-bornediseases ofmalaria,Rift Valley
fever, andcertaintick-borne diseases,which
allhavemajor humanand livestock healthand
economic implicationsin Africa,in order to
assistwith theirshort-termmanagementand
make projectionsof their futurelikelyimpacts.
