COURSEDETAILSCOURSEOVERVIEWUNIV201isaninquiry-basedcoursethatinvestigatesthebroadthemeof“feeding9billionpeople”fromavarietyofdisciplinaryperspectives.Inquirybasedlearningisahighlyparticipativeapproachtohighereducationwherestudentstaketheleadinexploringcomplexissues,identifyingimportantquestions,lookingforevidence,andsolvingproblems(Aditomoetal.,2011).UNIV201wasdesignedsothatstudentshavetheopportunitytoengageinanextensiveinquirybasedlearningexperience.Ultimately,studentswilldevelopandpresentatargetedinnovationthatisdesignedtoaddressoneaspectofthe“feeding9billionpeople”globalchallengeinameaningfulway.TheUNIV201courseinstructorswillserveprimarilyasfacilitatorsratherthanlecturers.Wewillintentionallyencouragestudentstoviewtheglobalchallengeoffeeding9billionpeoplefrommanyperspectives,includingbutnotlimitedtosocial,cultural,scientific,philosophical,political,andeconomicperspectives.Studentsinthiscoursewillcollaboratetodriveanddirectthelearningprocess,seekingtolearnmoreabouttheglobalchallengebyconsideringasmanyoftheseperspectivesaspossible.
