Dear Underwood Families,
As you know, our goal is to make sure all students graduate
from the Wauwatosa School District ready for the rest of
their lives. You probably also know that laws have been
passed to help schools like ours keep moving toward that
goal.
This school year, all public schools in the state of Wisconsin
received a new federal accountability report from the
Department of Public Instruction (DPI). The new report is
mandated by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The
federal accountability report is intended to identify schools
most in need of support and improvement. Our state’s long
term goal is to cut the achievement gap in half within six
years. Federal accountability reports will be released to
schools annually.
Here at Underwood we are using information in this report
to improve our school improvement plan. Specifically, we
plan to focus on improving overall student attendance on a
daily basis. I welcome your input on our areas of focus.
If you are interested in reviewing the new federal
accountability report, on March 5th you can access our
school’s report on the Department of Public Instruction
website: https://dpi.wi.gov/accountability/federal.
Please contact me if you have questions about our results.
Thank you for helping us to support students in their
learning!
Sincerely,
Jenny Keats
Principal
Our school wide character trait for
March is "Curiosity": I am eager to
explore new things. I take an active
interest in learning and ask questions
to learn more.
During classroom lessons with Mrs. Nolan, SK-4th grade
will complete our Bully Prevention Unit. Bullying is
someone being mean, on purpose, repeatedly and they
won't stop, it's one-sided and there's an imbalance of
power. Older grades will talk about the role of a
bystander and cyber bullying.
Attention 5th grade parents! Fifth graders have
been working the past several weeks on their
Academic and Career Portfolios (ACPs). Once our
portfolios are complete, we will be scheduling our 5th
grade "Moving Forward" conferences to
share our portfolios and discuss the BIG
transition to Middle School. We will also be
learning how to open a combination lock
(the #1 fear of going to middle school). Sign
ups for the Moving Forward conferences
will be done via "Sign-Up Genius."
