• D-D fusion reactions generate neutrons;
• neutron output: ~ 10 11 n s-1 ;
• fast (very energetic) neutrons emitted;
• 120 kV, 300 mA current, 36kWt;
• Diameter and height about 50 cm;
• safe and secure, full remote control

Extractor slits
• A 13.56 MHz Radio Frequency discharge is used to produce
deuterium ions
• The D ion beam is accelerated up to 120 keV
• The beam impinges on a titanium coated aluminum target where neutrons are generated through the D-D fusion reaction

Where is EUROSEA 001 now?
MAY 23rd, 2008 TURIN, ENVIRONMENT PARK 11
An EUROSEA 001-based beam shaping assembly devoted to in situ liver tumor therapy has been studied thanks to “Compagnia di San Paolo” financing and under EUROSEA supervision .Main contributions from:
• “San Giovanni Battista” Hospital, Turin;
• Faculty of Medicine, University of Turin;
• Experimental Physics Department, University of Turin;
• INFN, section of Turin;
• ENEA Bologna, Frascati and Casaccia (Rome);
• Chemistry Department, University of Turin.

EUROSEA 001 + material assemblyfor epithermal neutron beam
MAY 23rd, 2008 TURIN, ENVIRONMENT PARK 13
EUROSEA 001 can be coupled with a suitable material
assembly presenting:
• a moderating region (moderator) in heavy water for slowing down fast neutrons avoiding neutron
captures;
• an irradiation region (inside the moderator);
• an outer reflecting region (reflector) in Graphite or
Teflon for limiting neutron leakage and increasing thermal neutron flux inside the moderator

EUROSEA 001:Further development and Upgrade
• As presented by Prof. Leung, further improvements are
expected: at least an order of magnitude for neutron output;
• EUROSEA Committee is managing the upgrade of EUROSEA 001 thanks to the collaboration of its partners;
• At present new plasma chamber body design and target and moderator studies are under development;
• Dimensions and costs of the upgrade version do not
differ from EUROSEA 001 ones
