Habitat For Humanity is having a
fundraiser this coming week
(beginning Saturday 3/31/12) and
they are having a hard time finding
volunteers. They typically target
high school students/youth to help
out only because it is an easy fund-
raiser for them to help with, but ac-
companied by an adult. Youth is not
necessary .. adult volunteers are also
welcome. It is a stick house fund-
raiser held at the Salmon Run Mall.
We have 3 hour shifts each day for a
week, 2 to 3 people per shift needed.
We sell popsicle sticks for $1 and
they are hot glued to a 5' house
frame and the goal is to completely
cover the house frame and raise
money for Habitat to build a "real"
home here in our community. If you
are interested in helping out, please
contact Pam Rajner 486-7321.

FOCUS: Family Resiliency Training
FOCUS (Families Over Coming Under Stress™) provides resiliency training to military children
and families. It teaches practical skills to meet the challenges of deployment and reintegration, to
communicate and solve problems effectively, and to successfully set goals together and create a
shared family story. Families are directly impacted when a parent returns with significant levels of
combat operational stress. Changes can be upsetting to children and spouses, and affect parent-ing
and marital relation-ships. FOCUS helps families understand how reactions to deployment re-
minders can influence relationships and teaches skills to deal with them. Developed by a UCLA-
Harvard team, FOCUS teaches military children and families affect-ed by multiple deployments to
understand their emotional reactions, communicate more clearly, solve problems more effectively,
and set and achieve their goals. Parents and children may be able to learn to use tools that will bet-
ter prepare them for each new deployment. To get a better understand-ing of this program, please

5 Communication Tips for Couple
Couples deal with multiple stressors: family, occupation and work stress, completing educational pro-
grams, raising children, and financial stress. These dynamics can put a big strain on communication by in-creasing the likelihood of arguments. This causes an increase in isolation and avoidance, which decreases physical connection and intimacy. These concerns can become exacerbated for military couples because they cope with multiple deployments, long separations because of schools and trainings, and many transi-tions due to relocations. It is very important to keep the lines of communication open, with healthy dia-logue. Here are 5 quick tips.
1. Make time each day to talk and spend time together. Keep the conversation light, and don't try to tackle tough subjects like the family budget. During these times you want to communicate by sharing, laughing, and enjoying each other's company. You should schedule a time to talk about tough subjects, giv-ing more time to prepare your thoughts, ideas and concerns. This will help you avoid arguments and resent-ment. 2. Don't talk or try to strategize a problem when you are exhausted or in a rush. This will only lead to confusion and disagreement. Many couples want to do well and solve problems, but don't realize they are sabotaging the relationship when they choose the wrong time to communicate. 3. Use the speaker-listener technique. For example, one person talks while the other person listens with no interruptions. Additionally, the listener paraphrases what the person just said to make sure they get the message. The main point is to acknowledge that you "hear" the person, not necessarily that you agree. 4. It is very important to avoid anger and escalation in all situations. Taking a time-out is healthy and necessary to avoid any escalation. Simply say, "Time out -- I need a break." Don't be in a rush to continue the conversation; wait until you both cool down. 5. Professional counseling or therapy is great for couples who are having marital discord, and communication problems. I highly recommend therapy for couples who due to conflict are living separately, sleeping in separate rooms, experiencing a lack of intimacy etc.

April’s Birth flower is the Daisy
The Daisy is the flower bringer of good fortune and blissful pleasure.
It is thought that the name "daisy" is a corruption of "day's eye", because the whole head closes at
night and opens in the morning.
