ProjectOutputTheparticulardevelopmentandstrategictasksproposedherecanbesummarizedinthefollowingspecificobjectives:
1) Boostingnewgenerationdetectors,withthedevelopmentoftwoprototypesensors,oneforlarge-formatimagingandanotherforhigh-precisionpolarimetry,theevaluationofanexistinglargeformatwavefrontsensingcameraisalsoaddressed;
2) Developmentofacapacitance-stabilisedFabry-Perotprototypeforahighqualitycontroloftheparallelismoftheetalonplates;
3) Newtechniquesfor2Dsolarspectro-polarimetrywithintegralfieldunitsbasedonmulti-slitimageslicersoramicrolens-fedspectrograph;
4) Developmentoflargeformatliquid-crystalmodulators,requiredforthelarge-formatsensorsthatwillbeneededforthenewgenerationlargeaperturetelescopes;
5) EvaluationoftheperformanceoftheESTMCAOdeformablemirrorstoimprovethedesignandperformanceofthissystem;and
6) Strategicworktocoveringindustrial,financialandlegalissuesrelatedthefutureconstructionandoperationofEST.
Withalltheseelementsinhand,theprojectwillbeintheconditiontopresentadefiniteproposalfordetaileddesign,construction,managingandoperationofEST.
AboutGRESTTheGRESTProject(GettingReadyforEST)isanongoingprojecttotaketheEuropeanSolarTelescope(EST)tothenextlevelofdevelopmentbyadvancing in crucial activities to improve the performance of currentstate-of-the-art instrumentation. Legal, industrial and socio-economicissuesareaddressedaskeyquestionsforthebuildingofEST.
