Trash Free Beaches under Swachh Bharat Mission
ICZM Project, Odisha is observing the “Trash free beaches” as a part
of initiatives/ activities of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate
Change, Govt. of India. The second Sunday in the month of August was
observed by cleaning the beaches at five important locations along Odisha
coast, viz: Puri, Paradeep, Goalpur-on-Sea, Chandrabhaga (Konark) and
Satapada. Local students, boatmen association, members from local bodies
participated as volunteers on 13.08.2017. They cleaned the beaches and
created awareness among the tourists. Housing & Urban Development
Department co-ordinated the activities at respective beaches through their
Municipality/ NACs staff at Puri, Paradeep and Chandrabhanga (Konark).
Chilika Development Authority at Satapada and Tata Steel CSR at Gopalpur-
on-Sea co-ordinated the activities as the Nodal Agencies. The process shall
be further observed on 10.09.2017 and 02.10.2017 at above beaches.
However, the beach cleaning by paid persons engaged by Nodal Agencies,
has started on daily basis and shall continue till 02.10.2017 at the above
beaches. ICZMP, Odisha co-ordinated the activities and deputed two
officials for observing the “Trash free beaches” at each site.
