community. Miss Mary Frances Mahan, deceased June 23, 1964,

them all their lives.
The student body remembers her with affection and gratitude.

Culver's Baseball Indians won their third consecutive
Marshall County Championship with an undefeated
season. Eight teams fell to the mighty Indians in fall
play.
LaPaz was the first victim for the batsmen. The game
was tied, 3— 3, going into the top of the eighth inning.
The Indians broke loose for five runs behind a home
run by Stu Lowry. Liette held them scoreless in the bottom of the eighth to gain the victory.
Culver then traveled to Richland Center with an easy 18— 5 victory. Andy Lowry contributed a home run in
the fourth inning. Lindvall was the winning pitcher.
West High bowed to the Culver nine in a tough, 4— 3
game. Lemar and Lewis were the big guns with Lemar hitting a triple and Lewis driving in two runs. Lindvall
received the win.
LaPaz went down in defeat in a hard struggle as the
final score ended, 3— 1. Bruce Lindvall was the hero
of the game in the sixth inning with his two-run dou

opened up the game for the Indians.
West fell a second time to the strong batsmen, 12— 1.
Jim Lewis played the big man's role in the third inning
with a booming home run. The Indians then went on
to score nine more runs. Liette was the winning pitcher.
Monterey came as a tough game to the Indians as they scored only two runs which were both driven in
by Jim Lewis. Paul Liette gave up three hits as he held
the Flyers scoreless.
Liette was awarded the Joseph Zellers Award voted
to him by his teammates. Liette compiled a 0.49

George, Ron, and Coach present trophy to M r. Cole.
The Indians started off their basketball season with a revenge victory over
South Central, one of the five teams to beat Culver last year. After jumping off
to a first quarter lead of 21— 9, the Indians coasted to a 76— 51 win. The
balanced scoring attack with Lemar and Boswell with 16 points, Lewis with
11, and Lowry with 10, proved to be a favorable-looking factor for the coming season.
The Indians then played host to the Tyner Redmen. With Culver completely
dominating the rebounding, the Indians lead 40— 15 at intermission. With
eleven men scoring for the Indians they won easily 77— 44. Boswell led all scorers with 19 tallies.
The Indians traveled to Bremen where they outclassed the Lions in a 74— 59 vic
tory. Lemar was the big gun with 20 points. The Indians had smooth sailing all the way.
For the first time under Coach Crosley, the Indians defeated the Knox Redskins
51— 47. Lemar and Boswell led the team scoring with 18 and 14 respectively.
The roof fell in when Culver traveled to North Judson where the Bluejays pulled
a complete upset by beating the Indians 44— 41. The bucket seemed to have
a lid on it that night. Lemar led the Indians with 12 points.
A week later the Indians came back with a 46— 39 victory over the Caston
Comets. A fter being behind 19— 16 at the half, the Indians rallied to outscore
the Comets 18— 10 in the third stanza. They held onto a slim lead during the last quarter to capture the victory. Lewis led the team in scoring with 15.
One night later the Indians found themselves on the short end of the rope for the second time as they fought a seesaw battle with Rochester. When the final horn sounded, Rochester had won 62— 56. Again the Indians7 normal hitting
percentage was low.
Dave Lemar
Jim Boswell
At home the Indians broke an all-time gym record
by trouncing Walkerton 102— 66 at the annual
Homecoming game. Again scoring was balanced
with Lewis's 24 markers, Boswell's 19, Lemar's 17,
Bruce Lindvall's 16, and Lowry's 10.
In the first round of the Holiday Tourney, the In
dians downed the Argos Dragons 76— 64. Five
Culver men were in double figures with Boswell
leading all scores with 24. The night game came
as a shock and a disaster as Triton mopped up
the Indians with an 81— 43 victory. Boswell led
the Indians with 16 points.
Culver bounced back to the winning side of the
ledger with a 99— 65 victory over the LaPaz Vik
ings. Again it was Boswell who was high-point
man with 34 points.
Traveling to Grace College, the Indians had a
rematch with Triton. Determined to get back into
first place in the county standings, the Indians
beat the Trojans 74— 57. Leading the team in points were Boswell and Lowry with 20 and 17
points respectively.
Rival Argos played the Indians at home in one of
the scrappiest games thus fa r in the season. After
a slow start the Indians were able to pull away to lead the Dragons 88— 65 after the final stanza.
Balanced scoring again was the deciding factor
with five men in double figures. Lowry led all

One night later the Culver team again drew the short straw, being defeated by Winamac 77— 50.
Lewis was lead man with 13 points.
Determined to shake off the bad luck of the last
two games, the Indians made a flashing comeback by trouncing the CMA Eagles 91— 61. Bos
well contributed 17 tallies, Lemar 16, and B. Lindvall 15.
CHS spirits were dampened when the tall Cass Kings managed to override the Indians 71— 63
on the home floor. Boswell whipped in 20 points to lead the Culver attempt.
Playing without the injured Boswell, the team lost a close final contest against the Mentone Bull
dogs 68— 65. Lemar was high-point man with 21.
This year Culver's A-team competed in the
Winamac sectional. The CHS squad found themselves facing the Rochester Zebras, who had
beaten them once already this season. Despite the great effort put forth by the Indians, they
lost the game 68— 63.57

scorers with 22 tallies.
With seven games remaining the team has compiled a 10— 3 record.
Dave Lemar leads the team in the rebound department. Jim Boswell is second in rebounding but leads the team in scoring with an 18 point
per-game average.
Looking to the future, the Indians have high hopes with the prospects
on the B-team. Thus far the B-team has compiled a 9 - 4 record under
new coach, Bill Stegemoller. Among their victories the Papooses captured the B-team tourney, where they defeated Oregon-Davis and A r
gos. The big factor of the tourney was Jim Jackson's tremendous
rebounding. Mark Kosterman also helped the cause by contributing 14
points to each game.
George Jewell, a recruit from West High, has shown that he has many
abilities and looks very good for the future varsity team. Mark Koster
man and Jim Jackson look like high hopes for more rebounding power
plus fa ir shooting. Paul Hatten and Larry Washburn both have driving
ability and can hit the basket. Also returning from the varsity w ill be
Andy Lowry, Bruce Lindvall, Mike Eustis, and Ron Babcock. With boys
like these, backed by Culver spirit, next year's varsity should do a fine
job.LATE PRESS
One week after beating Argos, the surging Indians journeyed to New
Paris and managed to squeeze by the rival Cubs with a 73— 71 score.
Boswell paced the Indian attack with 20 markers. Lemar and Lewis
added 18 and 17 points respectively.
Plymouth was next on the agenda. The Culver boys added a twelfth
victory to their fine record by defeating the Pilgrims 68— 59. Boswell
led all scorers with a tremendous 33 points. Bruce
Lindvall aided the cause with 17 tallies.
Playing host to Pioneer, the Indians ended their
five-game win streak with a three-point loss 69—
66. B. Lindvall's 21 digits were tops for CHS.

HOMECOMING 1964I M t 0:00
Vi s i r o RaP e r i o d
• • •The third annual Homecoming of Culver High School was held Friday, December 19, 1964. The crowning of a Homecoming Queen was held prior to the varsity game. Preceding the four Queen candidates and their escorts onto the gym floor were: Marilee Herrmann, last year's Queen, and her escort, the flower girl, Mari Babcock, and the crown bearer, Andy Guise. They walked onto the floor through an honor guard consisting of Culver's and Walkerton's varsity basketball teams.
Miss Carolyn Snyder, a senior, was crowned 1964 Queen by Marilee and was presented with a bouquet of beautiful, long-stemmed red roses. Carolyn wore a floor-length formal with a green satin skirt and a white top.
The Queen's court consisted of: Karen Ruhnow, freshman, wearing a short formal of dark blue chiffon; Suzanne Overmyer, sophomore, attired in a dark green velvet long formal with a pink sash at the waist; and Barbara Mikesell, junior, wearing a wine brocaded short gown. Marilee looked very pretty in a floor- length formal of white brocade.

KEEPING IN TIME WITH MUSIC
The Music Department this year consists of the Senior Band, fifty-three members; Junior
Band, forty members; Sixth-Grade Band, thirty-two members; Mixed Chorus, ninety mem
bers; and Pep Band, thirteen members.
During the past summer, the Senior Band began sporting a new uniform— black bermuda
shorts, white shirts, orange sashes and knee-socks, and white tennis shoes.
Under the capable direction af Mr. Harry R. Fouts, the Senior Band performed three con
certs in the park last summer. They also marched at the Strawberry Festival at Aubbee
and the Miss Plymouth Pageant. This fall the band marched at the Kewanna Harvest Festival, Purdue Band Day (oh, that rain!) the Halloween Parade, and the Pep Rally.
During the basketball season, the Senior Band played for three games and marched for
two games. The first marching show was a novelty number called "Holiday for Beep
and Honkers/7 featuring the percussion section. Ten seniors in the band were presented
their band sweaters. The second show was a lively routine called "Diagonal Daze." The
Junior Band put on one floor show called "Atom and Eve." The Pep Band played for
the other three games, and for the last two games they wore bright orange vests and
hats.
The Senior Band, along with the Junior Band and Mixed Chorus, gave a Christmas and
a spring concert. Several of the band and choir members participated in the solo and
ensemble contests on January 30 and February 6 respectively. Two solos and one ensem
ble participated in the state contest on February 20.
All in all, this year was a successful and enjoyable one for everyone participating in
the Music Department.
The energetic Junior Band perform s a t Half-tim e. M oving into a new position.
