TK3511 EthernetPlus Evaluation and Design Kit
The Teknovus TK3511 Evaluation and Design Kit is a media converter device using the TK3511IC. The design kit includes two TK3511 boards with schematics, configuration scripts, and user
documentation. The board serves as a media converter between the local-side Gigabit Ethernetport (either Copper or Fiber) and the plant-side Gigabit Ethernet port (Fiber). In addition to GigabitEthernet, the local-side provides 8 T1/E1 interfaces or a single DS3/E3 interface, 8 Alarm and 8GPIO inputs or outputs, and a serial communication channel.
Data from these local interfaces is multiplexed with the Gigabit Ethernet data using a patent-pending technique, and sent to the remote side over the plant fiber using a standard GigabitEthernet optical transceiver. A TK3511 device at the remote side demultiplexes data back into thevarious interfaces. The design kit allows system equipment vendors to evaluate the TK3511features and surrounding circuitry. Developers can use this kit as a reference design for theirequipment, allowing faster time-to-market.
The TK3511 board shown above serves as a media converter between the local-side GigabitEthernet port on the left and the plant-side Gigabit Ethernet port on the right, while allowingmultiplexing out-of-band TDM traffic on the bottom. The board provides a control SPI port, LEDs,switches, debug headers, and jumpers for maximum flexibility in configuring and using the board.

System Diagram:The following figure shows a diagram of two TK3511 Evaluation Boards connected usingstandard Gigabit Ethernet GBIC transceivers. In a service provider access system, the board onthe left would be located at the Central Office, while the board on the right would be located at thesubscriber premise. The system allows providers to offer Ethernet plus TDM services with carrierclass management and reliability. The TK3511 system could also be used in an Enterpriseapplication, providing a managed media converter solution for fiber connectivity. Using theTK3511 system to multiplex TDM and serial communication channels with Ethernet can reducethe cabling required in the Enterprise, while the advanced monitoring and management functionsallow for higher availability and lower maintenance costs.
