Message from JLab Director to CLAS12 Workshop
I had hoped to be with you for at least part of the workshop; unfortunately it became necessary for me to attend a conflicting meeting in Washington, DC, so although I believe my name appears in the participant list, I can claim only a virtual presence.
…. you can be assured that we are working hard to provide the resources both for the 12 GeV Upgrade project and for the running of the 6 GeV program. We were very pleased that recently we received 19 proposals for experiments in the 12 GeV era including some which seek to extend the scope of the currently planned equipment.
….. it is very important that we ensure the resources to provide the base capabilities, but it is also important to develop initiatives and momentum which will ensure an expanding program as we start to operate the machine in the new era.
Please convey my best wishes to all, and, especially to the collaboration, my hopes for a successful workshop.
Hugh Montgomery

Summary
• The 12 GeV Upgrade is the NSAC #1 Recommendation
• The 12 GeV Upgrade is the highest priority at Jefferson Lab
• The project is in construction phase:
CLAS12 construction started with the first major procurements in progress: the superconducting magnets, the forward tracking detectors, and the pre-shower calorimeter.
This is a very exciting time for hadronic physics,
and the perfect time for new collaborators to make
significant contributions to the physics and
equipment of
