Jesus told him, “Go your way; your faith has saved you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.
Mark 10:46-53
Page 2 Thirtieth Sunday In Ordinary Time Dear Friends in Christ,
It is good to be back with you. We arrived home from our pilgrimage late on Thursday. It was a great spiritual experience. I pray more people from our parish will be able to be a part of our 2016 Pilgrimage. Details are being finalized and destination and details will be announced soon. Remember 2016 will be the Year of Mercy (begins on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception – December 8th).
“Lord, I want to see.” Those were the words of the blind man, Bartimaeus, in today’s Gospel reading as he encountered Jesus. His persistence in calling on Jesus is exemplary despite the intimidating crowd. Sometimes the wrong crowed intimidates us. We must be firm. There was also an encouraging group
who said to him, “Courage, he is calling you.” These are those who encourage us on the way of our vocations, pray for them. When Bartimaeus had his sight restored he followed Jesus. We have many times of blindness; some are physical while others are spiritual. We need to look for Jesus through the light of faith, refuse to be intimidated by the loud minori-ty and to follow the good examples of those who encourage us. We have to be willing to enter into a dialogue/prayer with Jesus and to follow Him.
This weekend we celebrate Priesthood Sunday, the calling by Jesus to those whom He sends into the world in order to bring others to wholeness and restoration of sight through faith. Pray for your priests and deacons, pray for those who have encouraged you along the way and pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
Thank you to all of you who have responded to the 2015 DSA. As of September 30th, we have pledged $63,894, or 88% of our target. This 88% has been pledged by 27% of our parish family – about 264 families. We need about $8,700 dol-lars to meet our target. I know that with your help, we will make this goal as we have in the past. If you have not yet made a pledge, please prayerfully consider doing so. Thank you for your generosity.
In Christ,
Father Godwin
Priesthood Sunday October 27, 2015
Today is a special day to thank, pray for, and support our priests, especially our pastor, Fr. Godwin.
Many priests have touched our lives. We thank them for saying “YES” to
following in Jesus’ footsteps and caring for all of the people of God.
Two by Two Ministry
The Two by Two Ministry reaches out to our homebound parishioners by visiting them in their homes, sending them cards and letting them know that our parish community is thinking of them and praying for them.
If you (or a family member) is homebound and would like Two by Two volunteers to visit with you, please contact the Parish Office at 815-385-0025 or [email protected] and your contact information will be forwarded to the ministry coordinator.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
In the tangled but fascinating history of penance in the Church, the Irish "tariff" system helped us survive the collapse of the old system of public canonical pen-ance and prepared the way for a new system that emerged in the twelfth centu-ry. The old form was unrepeatable, pub-lic, dealt with serious community matters, and regulated by the bishops as chief reconcilers. The new form had a more intimate setting of penitent and confessor, was extremely repeatable, and applied to everyone. The old canonical form was closed to children, who were hardly capa-ble of the very grown-up sins listed, or their demanding remedies. The old form was likewise closed to clerics, who were protected in a sense by the very nature of the discipline.
In the new Irish form the penitent directly named sins, or answered direct questions by the priest. Sometimes, the penitent would recite a long formula accusing him- or herself in a general way of all sorts of sins, even from the distant past. Next, priest and penitent together would lie prostrate before the altar and recite sev-eral of the psalms with penitential themes. Finally, the priest would pro-nounce a judgment, deciding what form and duration the penance should take, normally insisting that the person return for reconciliation once the penances were completed.

All Souls Day is Monday November 2nd with Masses at 8:00AM and 7:00PM. As in the past few years the Bereave-ment Ministry will help us to remember in a special way all those parishioners and family members that we have lost in the past year (November 2014-October 2015). This year
we will remember them during the 7:00PM Mass on Monday, November 2nd.
We invite any parishioner who has lost a family member in the past year to participate in the candle lighting ceremony. There will be candles to light, but we are also offering a Memorial Votive Candle that you can take home for a donation of $4.00. This candle will have the deceased’s name written upon it.
We will also have a memorial set up in front of Mother Mary’s statue where there will be a display of pictures of your loved ones who have passed away in the last year. If you would like to have a picture displayed, please bring one (no larger than 5x7) to the parish office during the week of October 26th. We will leave the display up for the month of No-vember and the pictures may be taken home the weekend of November 28th/29th. Please put your name and phone number on the back of the picture.
So that we can make plans for the number of people who plan to participate, please fill out the form below or contact Karen Weideman at 815-403-6249 by Wednesday October 28th. ——————————————————————————————————————————————–———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

November - Month of the Holy Souls
Our Catholic Faith teaches us to cherish the memory of our dead. It urges us to commune in prayer, especially at Mass, with the souls of those we loved while they walked this Earth. We are continually reminded that "life is changed, not ended."
This year you are invited to make a donation to our Memorial Prayer Garden in memory of your departed loved ones. We will place the names of those submitted to us for remembrance at a stand by the altar. We will pray for them and ask them to pray for us. We will live the doctrine of the "Communion of Saints.
You can make your donation by filling out the form below and returning it to the parish office along with your dona-tion by Friday October 30th or by going to our website and clicking on the link to Give Central.

Vocations Corner: The Wisdom of St. John Paul II
From time to time we read something that sparks a fire within us, that makes us nod our heads in agreement, and that rings true in the depths of our hearts. The following quote from St. John Paul II is one that has made many people marvel in awe, so I’d like to share it with you and I invite you to reflect upon it and encourage you to be not afraid to follow Christ in a deeper way if this elicits a powerful response from within you.
So, here it is, St. John Paul II says: “It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ide-al, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by medi-ocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.”

Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism before your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is required for the parents. This class is offered on the 1st Sun-day of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.
Sacraments
Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an over-view of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be regis-tered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Patrick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.

“When I meet another parent of a child with Down syndrome, there is usually a moment of instant recognition and under-standing. … The secret we share is the fundamental truth of our existence: every life is a good and perfect gift. …Our love for them has nothing to do with what they can or can’t do.
