2. Your first day at a new job can be quite stressful and it
can be difficult to remember to take everything you may need. Here
is a list of a few items:
3. The address and a map If you are planning to use the maps on
your phone it may be advisable to print out a map of your journey
just in case your battery dies or you cant get a GPS signal. You
dont want to be late on your first day because you got lost.
Remember, first impressions count.
4. Job confirmation letter/email It is vital you bring the job
confirmation letter/email on the first day as it usually contains
instructions on where to report and who to ask for when you arrive.
The person greeting you may not be the person who conducted your
interview.
5. A notepad and a couple of pens No doubt you will have a lot
of information to take in so its a good idea to take notes whether
its to remember names or to jot down the company procedures.
6. Identification and proof of address You may be asked to
provide some form of identification and/or proof of address. These
may also be necessary to complete your new employee paperwork for
the HR department.
7. Your photo driving licence or passport should be sufficient
but make sure they are valid. For the proof of address, a recent
phone bill or utility bill issued within the last three months
should be acceptable.
8. Bank details You will need to take your bank details in on
your first day so the accounts department know where to transfer
your wages. You will need your bank name, sort code and your
account number.
9. P45 or equivalent document Your employer will need your p45
or equivalent tax documents to send to HMRC so they can determine
your tax code. If you dont have your p45, you can ask for a p46
form that you will need to complete and return to your
employer.
10. National Insurance number Your National Insurance number
ensures that your National Insurance contributions and income tax
are correct and recorded against you.
11. A positive attitude Employers want to see enthusiasm and
positivity from you. This is a must on your first day regardless of
how little youve slept the night before due to nerves or for any
other reason you may not be feeling at your best.
12. A continued positive attitude can create a productive
environment. Good luck! FindMyDreamJob.co.uk
