Improvementofthe2DimagingXRFSpektrometers(MAXI): TheMAXIXRF-spectrometerhasbeendesignedin-houseformmresolution,2dimensionalscansonanyflatsurface(solidorfluid)toobtainelementaldistributionmaps.AnexamplepictureofaNimapfromastainlesssteelcrosssectionisshownbelow.ThiscompactXRF-systemconsistsofalowpower,peltiercooledx-raytubeandasilicondriftdetectorcombinedwithacameraandtwolaserpointers,withallaxisperfectlyalignedtofocusonthesamespot,thusallowingforcontinuousmonitoringanddocumentationcapabilitiesofallmeasurementsonthetarget.Sincex-raysarenotinthevisiblespectrum,thelaserpointersareaneasywaytomarkthecurrentspotandwilloverlapwhenfocused.

Improvementsintheperformanceaswellasinthescanningalgorthmsandimagingsoftwareisthetaskoftheprojectwork.
