WhatareThreadsandMilestones?Athreadisastrandoflearningthatrunsthroughouttheyeargroupsoftheacademyanddirectlycorrelateswithourstatesofbeing(theformsoflearningandthinkingthatourlearnersengagein).ThesecanbefoundonthebranchesofTheTree(layer3)andhelpcreatebroad,fullandhealthylearners.Milestonespunctuatespecificpointsofeachthreadandhelpeveryoneknowwhatthefocusisforlearningatthepointwithinthethread,aswellaswhatlearnersshouldbeabletoconfidentlytalkaboutattheendofeachyeargroups.Forinstance,withinbeingaMathematicianinYearTwo,Reasoningformsboththevehicleforlearningthroughouttheyear,aswellasthemilestoneattheend;theyshouldbeabletoreasonwithconfidencebeforetheymoveintoYearThree.AsisstatedmanytimesatWFA,weblendtheinnovativewiththetraditional,andusemastery-ledlearningtechniquesofgettingtoknowsomethingverywellandindepth,whilstusingtraditionalNationalCurriculumcontent.AsEinsteinsaid:‘Ifyoucan’texplainitsimply,thenyoudon’tunderstanditwellenough.’ThreadMilestones:Progressionbetweenandwithinsubjectstrands
