crops– Corn, beans, squash, and cotton
Gender Roles• Men: – Governed the villages (made the decisions)– Weavers
• Women: – Owned property and passed it to daughters– Basket makers
The Need for Rain• Customs and Beliefs: – Kachinas: Could bring rain and help from the spirits– Kiva – Underground ceremony– Snake Dance – dance performed to bring rain

Today
• 7,000 live in Northeast Arizona on a reservation
• Still follow ancient traditions– Kachina dances– Snake dance
